    Steven Saylor

I Love the Gordianus series and have read them all, including the collected short stories, except for the latest, Raiders of the Nile. I'm saving that for a birthday treat (if I can hold out until May.) ETA: The John Maddox Roberts series, set during Julius Caesar's rise to power is also very...

    Chandler or Hammett?

I can find Hammett heavy going sometimes, but Chandler's sly deadpan humor and descriptive abilities always keep his books moving.

    Maine Colonial's Reviews

"RtS, I certainly hope the DSM-V has finally added at least one of my proposed terms. I'm still miffed that they continue to refuse to recognize the "Snap Out of It" school of psychotherapy." Maine, I think that is a fast-track subset of the "Get Over Yourself" school of therapy. It's not too...

    Patricia Cornwell: The Body Farm

JCBC, I recently picked up The Chinese Shawl by one of the lesser-known Golden Age authors, Patricia Wentworth. Her detective, Miss Silver, reminds me a lot of Christie's Miss Marple. There were a lot of good mystery authors writing in that era and style; I've been searching a few more out. Less...

I have searched for years, but i can't find it, can anybody help?

Geez, that's not much information to go on. How long ago did you read it? Was it a novel, short story, or what? A children's book? What country did you live in when you read it? It could be a Stephen King or other horror author short story. You might try asking here...

e-reader glitches that tick you off

Two years ago I was determined never to use an ereader. Then the kids got DH a Kindle for his birthday, and it was all over. Even Prime shipping isn't fast enough for me anymore, if I can get it NOW.

Looking for a Legal Thriller from the early 1990s

I don't know the book, but the history of Harlem sounds interesting. You could search Stop, You're Killing Me by occupation or location. Also, Wikipedia has listings of female detective characters. Good luck!

Welcome To The New Book & Reader

The Amazon Vine thread and Colin's "Dark Deeds Press" thread, where he wrote original (and very funny) stories, are lost. He hasn't saved them offline, so this is a real bummer. How could entire threads get lost??

    Bad review after Kindle give-away

Wow, PMS'y for sure. I went over and voted her review down. It was both unhelpful and inappropriate! Do you know this sock-knitting woman?
