    Hello all

I enjoy YA lit/fiction, as well. You can find some good stuff there. Welcome :)

I think I know why people don’t read

Of course not. In my experience, readers tend to be more successful. This could be a side-effect of reading or that people who are successful tend to be readers. Again, that is in my experience. And success doesn't necessarily make someone a better person...but that's another discussion.

    Prohibitive Law vs Protective Justice

You've still explained nothing. You can repeat over and over why you think Prohibitive Law is bad, but you've never been able to detail HOW protective justice is a) different and b) HOW it works. You also refuse to read responses to your "system" and immediately assume that those who ask you...

I think I know why people don’t read

One reason people may prefer TV to books is that TV is addictive - it affects one's brain in such a way as to become addictive - there has been much research done on this topic. Books, for most, are not addictive. Therefore, most people come home, automatically flip on the tube and veg out...

I think I know why people don’t read

Television is addictive - the way the information is presented actually causes certain reactions in the brain. It is easy to sit and stare and part of that reaction is from the way the television affects ones brain. I found that when I stopped watching television for some time (I do not often...

I think I know why people don’t read

For the teens I teach (12-13), the girls most definitely read more than the boys. Some of this has to do with the "cool" factor, and a lot more has to do with the fact they'd rather be playing video games. Plus, the girls are more able to sit still and read a book. Another observation is that...

    Avatars

Besides trying to attack the book, our kitten doesn't interrupt the reading...well, he didn't until a few moments ago when he and one of my older cats decided to play together IN the Christmas Tree - HALFWAY up. That did distract me a bit. So two sphynxes (I do not know the plural) - very...

Poll: How old is the average reader on this Forum?

I think some of it has to do with how busy they are - some of my student's barely have time to breathe, must less read for fun. I do, however, have a core bunch of readers who are always reading something - one in my homeroom goes to the library almost every other day, as she reads that much...

Do you buy, borrow or take out from the library?

Buy - can't stand the thought of a deadline over me. It isn't that I read slow, but I just don't like feeling bound to read something in a certain period of time. Plus, I like to reread, and it's good to have a book handy when I choose to do so.

    Avatars

Mine is a cat and a book - two of my favorite things. I often combine my two favorite things as I am owned by 3 felines who all LOVE to "read" with me. Sometimes more than one all at once.

How Many Books Do You Read in a Year (approx.)?

I don't keep track - but looking at my shelves - I've read over 40 this year. Not as much as some years, more than others. I definitely read much more than most of my friends - which is why I'm here. Nice to be on a forum with others who enjoy books!

What do you think of the Kindle?

Hmmmm, maybe I can turn the price to my advantage...."Really, honey, these 40 paperbacks are the same price as a Kindle - and it doesn't even come with a book." I don't think e-books will succeed until they a) multitask and b) do not use a proprietary format.

Poll: How old is the average reader on this Forum?

28 here...almost 29. I've LOVED reading ever since I can remember. The only time in my life that I did not read constantly was during my years at college - my engineering major left little time left over for reading (the time free from homework was spent doing something active with friends)...
