Hi all,
I just wanted to get your opinion on the fiction book I should take on my trip to Japan next week. I'm after quite a light read. One of my favourite authors is Haruki Murakami and wondered whether you knew of any other great Japanese writers I should look up.

At the moment, I'd say my favourite author is Haruki Murakami. I don't tend to read many books by the same author, but I've read three of his. I've yet to find a writer who I've really been compelled to go on to read his or her ouvre. Then again, I'm not the most prolific reader.
I don't mean to be disrepectful about the book because it has had almost unrivalled success - the Booker of Bookers and all that - but does it become easier to read? I'm not looking for a light read but after reading pages without understanding a single thing, it got a bit too much. Perhaps...
