Selling crap you've had in your basement for years...

I've been cleaning out the basement and I've come across stuff that I know someone out there may find valuable. But it tends to be obscure stuff. Fancy car brochures, Magic: The Gathering cards, etc. From a quick eBay search these things don't appear to have much value but I'm certain someone out there would like to have it instead of me just pitching it. Finding this person will probably be far more work than the small amount of money I'll get in return is worth. The environmentalist in me won't let me just pitch these things either. If someone can use something I'd rather that than pitching/recycling it.

I'm not trying to peddle my old dusty wares here just curious what you guys do when in the same position.

You should see if there is a Freecycle group in your area. If there is join it and post all of your junk on there. You'd be shocked what kinds of junk people want. You could also have a yard sale before it gets cold out. Either way, you won't be making millions, but at least you'll be clearing out junk. When I'm desperate to clear stuff out quickly I throw it in the Salvation Army bin. I never know if they will use it or throw it away, but I hope that some of my old clothing and other junk is being used that way.

I bet you could find someone on eBay to buy the cards, possibly even the brochures (people collect everything). Or you could look up some local shelters or what not to take it for you. I am not sure if they would have much use for it, though...lol. Unless they wanted to duel it out playing Magic The Gathering :p

If you need any eBay help, feel free to message me. I sell stuff on there every now and then.

Did you check e-bay for ephemera ? Collage artists and people who do altered books are always looking for interesting paper images.
Another thought is to check your yellow pages for scrapbooking shops and call them to see if they have any ideas. I'm willing to bet they would be interested. Or, place an ad in your local want ads. Our paper has a Mini-Market for individuals selling all sorts of stuff, and there's a price limit on the contents of any one ad, so the sellers aren't competing with dealers. You would be amazed at what people will pay for!
