How should I arrange the books on my new bookshelf?

I've tried all of those options at one point or another and I'm not using any of them now...My current style is to just jam books where I have spaces.

That's me exactly! At one time I carefully arranged my books, but now I just try to fit them all somewhere. Two rooms of my house are filled with books. They took over five bookshelves and two closets. I do routinely clean out the books I no longer need, but I replace almost instantly.

The way that worked longest for me was arranging them by size. I hated seeing one tiny book crammed in between two tall books. I actually had a system within a system. They were arranged by size first, but then each size group was arranged alphabetically. But like I said, now as long as I can make space for them somewhere I'm happy. Ha.

I would suggest......vertically.

Or, take your cue from High Fidelity and arrange alphabetically, chronologically by release date, or chronologically by date you bought them.

I BOUGHT A BOOK SHELF! FINALLY! It's small, but has room left for about 10 books. After that, I'll have to stack in front or behind. I should be good for a while.
