Stephen King: The Dark Tower Series

Which version did you buy? The original or the new revised one that he rewrote back in '04? (Was it '04? Whatever, it was within the past five years).

Its the revised version and its my second try too. I just couldnt get enthusiastic about reading after a few pages. And it just doesnt make me want to try the next volume.

While I decide I have started 'The Green Mile' which I cant put down. I am having a bit of a King phase at the minute and trying to read some of the waiting to read pile.

The next 3 volumes are COMPLETELY different from that first one. A lot of people in the King community have suggested that if you're having a hard time with it, just skip Gunslinger, get into the rest... go back to it later.
I assure you that that first book does not reflect the rest of the series. If you read the intro to the revised version, King himself says that he was trying too hard. Didn't he start writing that when he was in college or just getting out of it? Either way, don't give up on the series. You will not be disappointed.

Then I shall continue. At the minute I am reading 'The Green Mile' and am totally hooked. I think thats always been my problem with King. When he is good he is brilliant, when he is off the boil he is mediocre.

Did anyone read the comic of the Gun Slinger they made of this? I'm tempted every time I see it to pick it up, but I never do, maybe it's that heavy price tag.

These are the only King books I ever read. I think horror is silly. Or at least just not scary.

But these are really cool. In a way the clunky things about them are almost the most endearing: he doesn't mind taking chances and getting screwball.

Very nice reads.

I made myself some sandalwood pistol grips. Not a very good material for it, actually. But hey... cool, or what?
