The curse of reading and forgetting

I've had this happen a number of times. There are some books that I can remember vividly, from scene to scene. There are others where I remember certain snippets and others, that I can't remember at all. The flaming girl with a dragon & a tattoo series(the specific names elude me now) are a...

Finally, an Okie book worth reading

The funny thing?, at one time, Oklahoma was chock full of socialist state legislators. Not an Oklahoman, but I lived in Ada for about six years and moved on to Nebraska. No need to bring up Barry Switzer, we Nebraskans are all too aware of that painful time in our football history.

    Your writing routine

I think I'm neck and neck with Balzac on the coffee drinking. Nothing happening with writing though. :D

Which Authors You Won't Read Again?

I can say that I've read all of Dianetics. Sci-fi meets the occult meets wishful thinking. Oh wait, is that a movement somewhere?:devillook

    Boston Marathon attack

The predictor of violence is intent. Whether it's a gun or a knife is irrelevant. Most people who have gone through training understand the rules and ramifications of having a fire arm. Most of them know that if someone is in your house, you are more justified, than say, shooting someone in...

Winston S. Churchill: The Second World War

Pontalba's point cannot be stressed enough. Pacifists in both countries almost lost Europe to Hitler. the Marshall plan was not widely supported and it was very controversial. Why send money to Greece? Why prop up a bombed out Italy? The theory behind the aid held true as the Marxist...

    Boston Marathon attack

I'm reading more and more about the gun background check provision making a come back, at least behind closed doors in the senate. It appears that Manchin and Toomey are at it again. I don't own a gun, never have. In regards to the Sandy Hook shooting, a background check would not have caught...

Winston S. Churchill: The Second World War

I suppose by "blood" the previous commentator is speaking of the history of colonization. While not entirely wrong, it also begs mentioning as Niall Ferguson does, that colonization brought many benefits-the roads system, infrastructure, and educated classes necessary for some nations to be...

    Plautus; The Pot of Gold

I'm really into ancient Greek works as of late. This one has me just rolling, I love the miserly old man and his paranoia that someone is stealing his gold. A good comedy if there ever was one.

    Boston Marathon attack

Your concern is a realistic one in my opinion. From a legal-guru at slate: I also agree with Bob though, there is little doubt the brothers did it. Yes, the "court of public opinion" is rash and is not always accurate, but that doesn't mean that we can't connect the dots and look at...

What's It Like By You Today?

74 with no clouds. My oldest son who is a bear scout, had a good troop meeting featuring a good game of kick ball, followed by the very first practice of baseball for my oldest two. Nice to be dealing with snow and 30 degree weather.

    Favourite Poems

Sufi poetry has always been a favorite of mine. This particular one has always resonated with me. Perhaps it was due to growing up in a "dark" Lutheran(Garrison Keillor terminology lingo for you there) home.
