I've seen that and it's a hilarious thing to buy. If I had so many unread books around me I would go crazy for sure.
I read some Jane Austen and most of them are a struggle (especially Emma) but sometimes you find some really funny remarks and witty comments in these books. I actually enjoyed...
Do you use (college) reading lists to keep up with reading the classics or to get new ideas for books?
At the moment I'm reading my way through the BBC's Big Read which is quiet entertaining. Furthermore I've got some College Reading Lists which always give me ideas for new books.
So what...
The following are some must reads in the science fiction category:
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells...
The Virgin Suicides is a gorgeous story. I didn't read Middlesex so there is no way for me to compare. The best I can say is that The Virgin Suicides is quiet bold and shocking kinda like Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. Really impressive.
Don't mind the spaming crowd they do that all the time.
You could also try:
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenides
I agree with your list but do kids really need 2 Shakespeares?
What about:
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Brave New World by...
Nice chimning in Martin.
Not a single one? Really?
So what about To Kill A Mockingbird, The Time Machine, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lord of the Flies, Brave New World or Animal Farm?
Come on they're awesome.
Gosh people stop the public mud-slinging contest.
So back to the topic: Do you read "literature"?
Actually I'm reading lots of literature. I've got a big reading list full of classics. Some are quiet boring but most are really awesome. Furthermore it's fun to finally understand all the...
I stopped watching TV last February when I found out that with every episodes of Friends I'm watching 10 minutes of commercials. That's 1 minute of commercials for every 2 minutes of Friends.
These stupid commercials are freaking me out! I don't wanna see them on TV or in cinemas. I hate them...
That stuff happens in Goethe's Faust II and there really is no need to read that book 'cause it's so dull and senseless it hurts. I only read it 'cause I had to know how it all ends.
Actually I wanted to see Faust burn in hell, so it was quiet disapointing.
Mh... you know the devil didn't get Faust's soul.
Faust died but his soul hid in his dead body, so the devil summoned some devilish helpers and waited for it to come out. Unfortunately god sent some flower dispensing angels and the poor devils got a little bit distracted. In all that...
I just did a little search on the net for good French Books but it left me pretty much clueless.
I just can't tell which ones are the really good ones and which ones are just crap.
So do any of you know any good ones?
The only criteria is that these books have been first published in...
