The forums will be offline for a short time on Sunday morning (GMT) to allow us to do some routine maintenance and upgrades etc.
Shouldn't take too long.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've added them to the "wish list" I'm creating for our new library. It will take several months for the new library to be developed, and we will be working on the admin/editor interface first.
In the meantime the current library will still be operational.
Spoilers should be used wheneve there's a major plot discussion or something which would spoil the book for people who haven't read it.
If an entire thread is likely to contain spoilers it should have a spoiler warning in the title of the thread (a moderator will be able to add that)...
I know what you mean! I've just had to upgrade another site which I manage, and that one had a few hacks to sort out too.
Still, at least they're on top of the security which is one of the reasons we paid for it.
Darren.
Fixed that little problem. It was what I suspected - the new security feature was not allowing a login from the main www domain to the forums subdomain.
Must be to do with the new security features in vbulletin. As the forums are on a subdomain (forums), it isn't liking logins from the main domain (www).
I'll look into it.
This month, The Book Forum has teamed up with author, and member, Eugen Bacon to offer you a chance to win a rare signed copy of his latest international thriller, Borderline.
I've never been impressed with hotmail. I've got an account with them which I use for junk. Gmail isn't too bad (if anyone wants a gmail account, I've got a few invites). Yahoo Mail is one of the best.
A ratings system (in addition to the regular reviews) would be a good idea.
Stewart, I do some coding myself. Other stuff is contracted out to developers.
Over the next few months I'm planning a major overhall and upgrade of our existing reviews library. The exisiting software and database has reached the maximum it can achieve in terms of features and functionality.
Now's your chance to say what new features you'd like to see included. The...
Now that this has been running for a few weeks, what do people think?
I'm enjoying it, but it seems to be running very slowly. The storyline doesn't seem to be progressing much although they are building a lot of the characters.
I've bought a couple of second hand hardcovers from ebay, but can't remeber when I last went to a second hand bookshop. Don't even know where my nearest one is :o
Following recent problems with certain members, we have updated our membership agreement to confirm our policy with regards to warnings and banning of members from the site.
We have added the following to the agreement.
Over the past few weeks, we have noticed several members constantly...
The only thing you are doing Ou Be is upsetting a lot of people by your behaviour. You've already been suspended for your attitude to other members. Are you trying to go for a permanent ban?
The fact is that this site is a private site. It has rules and boundaries. We're fairly relaxed about...
If you're still interested in the thread ratings icons, they were only introduced for the Writers' Showcase. They were never used on the other forums as they are all supposed to be PG13.
We're considering introducing them into General Chat though.
The last semi-political thread that was in General Chat very quicly degenerated and had to be closed. I'm not convinced that the same won't happen if we have politics and/or religion areas.
I've chatted this over with the moderators before and the general opinion is that politics and...
