    Fragments v. 2.0

I have slightly mixed feelings about it because I am finding the style of writing difficult but all the same I am engrossed and images from the book keep popping into my head during the day so that has to say something!

    Fragments v. 2.0

Blindness - Jose Saramago p181 The doctor's wife had no desire to kill, all she wanted was to get out as quickly as possible and, above all, not to leave a single blind woman behind. This one probably won't survivie, she thought as she dug the scissors into a man's chest. Another shot was...

    Cold Mountain

I agree completely - I didn't see the point of this film. It was just depressing without having any redeeming features.

Books I own but haven't read yet

Another book I would recommend if you enjoyed this one is 'Life and Death in Shanghai' by Nien Cheng. It covers a shorter time period than Wild Swans and as such offers a deeper insight into the Cultural Revolution and Maoist China.

    Jeffrey Deaver: The Bone Collector

I would thoroughly recommend the Lincoln Rhyme series - they are all excellent (except possibly the latest one, Vanished Man, which was not quite up to par). You may want to be a bit cautious with his other books though as there are a couple of mediocre ones.

    Garth Nix - Childen's Fiction

I finally got around to reading Sabriel after having it on my TBR list for a while and thoroughly enjoyed. I have just ordered the next two books from Amazon and await with bated breath!

    Euro 2004

I see what you mean but with technology today it doesn't need to take that long - it can be checked in seconds. It also wouldn't need to be checked for every infringement - maybe just things in the box (especially where the linesman disagrees with the referee as was the case last night).

Advice on Stephen Donaldson - Gap Series

I decided to leave this series for now. Did read Pandoras Star by Peter Hamilton though which was absolutely fantastic. I will definately check out the Night Dawn Trilogy.

    Euro 2004

I have decided to give up watching football because it is madness how such important decisions are taken by refs without checking replays - if they can do it in rugby why not football? Grrrrrrr.

Stephen King: Wolves Of The Calla

I just finished it last night and now agree that it was a bit short - quite a lot happened in terms of understanding more about the dark tower but not much happened if you know what I mean. Fantastic build up to the last book though - I don't know how I will wait until it comes out. As an...

Stephen King: Wolves Of The Calla

Its 430 pages - not exactly short but it depends what you are comparing it to.

    Ask Me Anything ...

hm, I am not sure that insulting the quality of my chocolate is a good answer but I'll let you off!

    Ask Me Anything ...

What about my chocolate chip question? I've been waiting patiently for ages .....

    What on earth!

This made me think immediately of Oryx and Crake - lets hope its not the first step down that road!

Have you think about your death?

True, but using the word in the context of 'what a load of bollocks' works quite well I think.

Have you think about your death?

I wouldn't consider 'damn' to be a swear word. We had a heated discussion about this at work actually as we talked about introducing a swear box but no-one could agree on what words should be included on the list :D I was arguing that 'bollocks' wasn't a swear word but was over-ruled - its a...

Have you think about your death?

Dang? Is that a word? If so, I like it :D

    James Herbert

I recently read Nobody True and thought it was one of the worst books I have read in a long time. It had a reasonably interesting premise (someone being murdered whilst having an out of body experience and being stuck on Earth as some kind of spirit trying to discover who murdered him) but the...

Stephen King: Wolves Of The Calla

All the anticipation will be worth it though when you have the final book in your hands and all is finally revealed. (At least I sincerely hope so because if the whole thing is not finished off in a fantastic way I will be very annoyed with Mr King!) In fact, if the ending is not good enough we...

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

I didn't realise that it was in three parts - doh! I hate having to wait for new books to be published :(
