I'm currently teaching a reading class for 7th graders. They are on-grade-level readers and the class is designed to increase their reading fluency. I'm going to be starting "Poetry Friday." I was looking for recommendations of good poems/poetry books for the age group (I know Shel...
Favorite Word
I'd have to say my favorite word is eccentric. I like to think of myself as eccentric, but I fear I'm too young and not rich enough...so I just come off as odd.
Browsers
I have:
Safari
Camino
Firefox - the one I use
...I used to have others, but I no longer run my weblog, so no need to check to see if it shows up in everything...
DWJ's
I didn't read any of Diana Wynne Jones' novels until I was an adult. I have read her first three Crestomanci novels and enjoyed them. I also enjoyed Howl's Moving Castle. My two favorites are The Year of the Griffin and The Dark Lord of Derkholm.
I have the Dalemark Quartet, but have...
Books I Didn't Finish
I rarely don't finish a book...I need the closure of finishing. However, one that stands out is The Monster of the Madidi by Simon Chapman. It's a non-fiction about his search for a giant ape. Sounded interesting and I enjoy cryptozoology, so I picked it up. I'm so...
Thanks!
Thanks, everyone! I had a great day. My husband took me to see a hockey game (which our team won 4-1) and we just generally hung out all day. Happy holidays to all of you!
I think her mysteries are brilliant...I do not like her writing. To me it feels as if she's simply laying out clues rather than writing a story...its almost like "Here are the facts without much else." Its too orderly, not that I don't think the solutions to her mysteries are great, I'm just...
I have a quote journal that I use for quotes from books. I've never gotten around to collecting them from other places, though I do write down funny quotes from my professors in the margins my class notebook.
I've asked the librarians for other information, but never recommendations. I usually get those from dad, or from people at the bookstore...either the workers or random browsers. It works just fine for me. I've always found librarians to be a bit intimidating, though I do enjoy asking them...
I've looked at the big read, but I mostly go for books that I will find interesting. There are some classics I enjoy, but many of them are so depressing that I don't feel like wasting time on them. I figure I can read the news if I want to be depressed.
Can't pick one....even the best years have been clouded by some tragedy (usually death of a close friend/family member). As far as carefreeness, my senior year of college was the best, and had it not been overshadowed by the death of my best friend, it would stand out as the best year for me.
I'd pay off the rest of my education...that way, we could really start saving up for a down payment on a house and a new car for my hubby (I think his is in its last stages).
'round here, we all enjoy when the Greenvalley Bookfair is open. If you can find what you're looking for (and what you're not looking for) you can get it for great prices. Otherwise, we have just the general big bookstores...not that I mind them, but something more unique is good every once in...
