(I borrowed it from Nabokov, but this is how I feel like looking on that magazine cover art) - Thanks a lot, Occlith!

Dan Brown: The Da Vinci Code

Yeah, except that Dan Brown was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, USA (as you said - "sad run down old town") and wrote about a place in Milan where the "Last Supper" is exhibited :D I mean, I do not believe that any book could help Exeter. Had he written about Exeter and not Milan, nobody...

Best book you've read so far in 2008

I'm into Kim by Rudyard Kipling... That writer had a talent: I just open the book, and my room fills in with smells and noises of India... The language of narration is kind of funny (aside when he switches to Indian English, which is then obvious) - is it old-British, or does Kipling make...

    My Amazon Kindle review....finally!

Hm, I like the stuff I buy to be entirely MINE! I also do not like to be spied at... Is it not why we all were so anti-communists just 20-30 years ago? I actually still suggest to read "The future of reading" - the article is very intelligent, I guess you'd enjoy at least to see the...

    My Amazon Kindle review....finally!

Isabell, My main concern is DRM. That's the devil  of the Amazon. You do not own any rights on the books you read! It is as if it were yours, but you can not lend your books, sell it, share it, or whatever you would do with your book otherwise. Here is a short article on the Amazon...

    Older Films To Be Re-viewed

Here's looking at you, kid. And this is the YouTube piece with "We'll aways have Paris" I'd guess that Casablanca fans will appreciate it :) Can anybody find a similar video with "round up the usual suspects"? I'd LOVE to see it!

Dan Brown: The Da Vinci Code

Do you want to hear a real joke? A couple of years ago I was in Milan, in Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Leonardo's "Last Supper" is presented. One is allowed there only in a guided tour, and the first sentence the guide says is: "Oh, please, listen first and then ask about the Dan Browns...

    Suggest Something

I would recommend Rohinton Mistry, "A Fine Balance". Realistic with lots of plot twists. May be a bit sad. Here you can find some posts on this book.

    New to reading

Excuse-moi? I mean, Scusi?! Entschuldigen Sie bitte, but since when it does matter?! My mom reads SF and crazy about Terry Pratchett . So does it mean that all females are into SF and Terry Pratchett?!

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

It is night here. But I will be back tomorrow. I also think to take picture of my music - see what you can say?

Hm... Post a picture of your music? ;)

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

OK, here come the images of my shelves. I am moving to another country, so something like 90% of books are missing... I also do not have the books that I like the best, but never mind, here it goes:

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

Wells83, Neat shelves! I never managed to keep all those little statues in mine... They get dusty and I get angry when I need to remove the dust from them... And my cat would anyway remove them all - he is very jumpy sometimes! It seem that my interest are completely orthogonal to yours; I...

    What gives?

That's true. It sucks. But many times it makes no sense to reply, does it? I one of those who watch silently - I scan for the books or writers that I am interested in, and the old threads are typically a good source of information. As for a book chat... Will it make any sense now to...

    Structural Suggestions

I agree. It must be realized that it would be quite a laborious job for a chosen person to lead the discussion! And many will depend on the picked book - it might lead again to a "dead discussion" since nobody would like to read this specific book in a given time... It might be depressing...

Small town setting for English novel.

Great Expectations I think that Great Expectations by Charles Dickens could be nice for "small town setting". I LOVE this book. Below I quoted Wikipedia for the places referred to at the book:

    Antigone; Sophocles

I wonder... Does anybody know if Antigone has inspired also Thomas Mann for some of his literature? We had to learn this book at school, and there I first came to the story of Oedipus complex. I was a teenage, so it quite bewildered my senses. Really great book!

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

That's actually what I meant - just by looking at the books, you can see what's person's hobbies are, and how broad are his interests. That's LOTS of information! Seeing shelves with only cheesy romans tells you: I am ONLY into cheesy romans, nothing else interests me whatsoever. I do...

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

I was not talking about YOU. But - if you see a pretty young girl, and she chats non-stop of whatever, and then you come to her flat and see Tolstoy you are completely bewildered, since it is not how she seemed when she chats. If she lives with her parents, than it is more probable that the...

Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are

You are a man of many disguises :) I saw the code book immediately (meaning Cool), and also some hiking books (all in States?!!! - a bit narrow-minded! Or I missed some others?) There are some WAR books, which I liked - I could guess that there is a stream you are interested more than in...
