I first saw Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun. He was only 12 years old and was fabulous! I had never seen someone so young carry a film the way he did. Great film. You should check it out.
Would you care to elaborate on this? I thought it happened to be one of the best filmed of all the Batman films. And except for the couple of "cheesey" Hollywood scenes inserted to satisfy the mainstream audience, I think it was a great film.
I'm reading Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman by Elizabeth Buchan. Despite it's corny title (not quite sure if that's the original UK title) it is a good book. Intelligent, witty, heartwarming and sad at times, but the book it wonderful. I can see that this is one of those books that I will be...
Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Just finished Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Loved it, loved it, loved it! I thought it was a very smart and funny book. Sad to see it end.
Also saw the film and thought it was rubbish!
I'm reading Exiles from a Future Time by Alan M. Wald. It's been a year since I bought the book and have made many attempts to read it but couldn't get past page 10. Am now up to page 13 so things are looking up.
Last night I took out my old VHS tape of A ROOM WITH A VIEW. What a wonderful film. My favorite scene is of the stolen kiss on the hillside. Can you get any more f*uckin romantic than that?
First off, I have to tell you all that right now my cats are kicking the shite out of each other in frustration because I changed their feeding schedule. I'm such a bad mom. If they don't stop soon I may become the mother of one cat.
And now to the reason for my posting: I just finished...
I'm currently reading THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN. It's an adolescent book I got from my reading volunteer coordinator. It's a sweet story of a boy who encounters two Trumpeter Swans.
Just finished INSIDE THE VICTORIAN HOME by Judith Flanders. Loved it and thought it was very interesting.
I believe the UK version is called LIFE AND DEATH IN VICTORIAN ENGLAND.
My avatar is the eye of Horus - not to be confused with the eye of Ra. This heiroglyph was placed on the doors of Egyptian tombs to ward off evil. I love all things related to ancient Egypt. Oh, and I have the tatoo as well. ;)
I'm currently reading Where God Was Born by Bruce Feiler. The author explores the Middle East to find the physical roots of biblical stories.
It's very interesting and I can't help but notice a hint of sarcasm here and there . Perhaps he's a little resentful of religion or is that me...
I've read that as well and found it very moving. It's in a book I bought titled Political Tales & Truth of Mark Twain. It's a small but wonderful book.
I read this the other day. It's as if Twain were alive and speaking of the war in Iraq.
PEACE WITH HONOR
[Mark Twain on the Philippine War]
I pray you to pause and consider. Against our traditions we are now entering upon an unjust and trivial war, a war against a helpless people, and for...
