I still found it really enjoyable, and a few of the books she did read were added to my TBR. Her lifestyle is basically a somewhat-affluent New Yorker. It didn't bother me at all. Sure, I was jealous that she could read all day and that was her job... but I didn't find it interfered at all with...
ions, I don't want to have an argument here, but given that you've said your piece, let me tell you how way I feel about your occasional behaviour. I think you're a valuable member of the forum and enjoy most of your posts, but I don't like cleaning up the mess you leave behind with your...
never_know is thinking of Opus Dei.
I can't believe I just posted on a Dan Brown thread. I'm still yet to pick up one of his books, and this is the first DB thread I've even looked at. I just wanted to find out why on earth Peder was posting on one!
Likewise also. I'd say about half of my TBR is based on what I read about here. The rest is based on recommendations from friends, my librarian mother, and reading the newspaper. The latter are generally mainstream genre-fiction recommendations, while the TBF-based recommendations are often a...
Ladies and gents, this thread is starting to get a little bit too snippy for my liking. I think we've all said our 2 cents worth regarding both grammar and how we feel about snide remarks.
During the past year I've seen nothing that has changed the way in which some members reply to new...
Ah, bonne! J'ai habite en la maritimes pour quartre ans. J'ai beaucoup amis de Moncton. Bouctouche et un de mes endroits préférés! (Desolee pour mon francais et tres pauvres, mais j'essaie!)
Bienvenue a TBF!
1961 - if only for Ray Charles' "Hit the Road Jack" and Dion's "Runaround Sue".
If you could go back to any decade/century and 'jam', which would you choose, and what would you like to be able to play?
Heh, heh. Nice. :D Perhaps there's a market for romance novels with a dwarf, though... a cowboy dwarf called Jet, who's years in prison have hardened his heart and his muscles. Until he meets Yelonda, a tall, mousey looking and flat chested southern gal, who sees beyond Jet's stoic exterior and...
I think you'll find that practice is the best way. For every grammar rule there is an exception. Read, read, read and write, write, write!
Es-tu acadien?
Really?! Oh, but I love hearing about Moiraine's latest blue frock, and the bosom revealing dresses that Elayne and Egwene seem to enjoy so much (what is it with the busts on fantasy characters? Or is it the predominantly male writers I read that is to blame? What I wouldn't give for a heroine...
Yeah, I laughed when I read Ainulindale's post yesterday. I'd never looked at this thread before, but it pretty much fit with my previous experience. I really enjoyed it until Book 4... then threw it away in disgust. I'm not at the disgusted stage yet, and am still enjoying the adventure story...
Welcome to TBF!! Your filing cabinet is far superior to mine, by the sound of it. If I try and open more than one file, one of them inevitably falls down behind the draw where I forget about it.
What sort of 'files' do you have open at the moment?
Just thought of another recommendation for a country not listed.
Greenland: Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow. Lovely book, but be sure to read it on a warm day... otherwise you might feel a bit chilly.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Zlata's Diary. Okay so it's an easy read, but I really enjoyed...
Try 'Cloud Street' or 'The Riders'. The former is closer to what I think 'Dirt Music' is about, from memory. 'The Riders' is a little more... odd. I read this about 10 years ago for a literature class, and still remember many of the themes we discussed. Interesting symbolism and a wonderful read!
