I like the idea of a book of the month as it will force me into unknown territory if I want to be part of the dicussion.
This is a double edged sword though because I may decide not to read it anyway and just stay away from that part of the forum.
On the other hand if there were a few...
Glad to hear you enjoyed Human Traces - I'm working through it and finding it a bit slow going. The writing's good, the characters are well developed and he's got a real knack for ending each chapter on a high to keep you keen for the next one.
I am finding some of the medical digressions...
I've only read a few - I never even did any at school which surprises a lot of folk. Of the ones I've read I liked Macbeth and Hamlet best.
Although after reading Nigel Tranter's "Macbeth the King" I always did feel kind of sorry for the poor guy. It suggested a very different picture of him...
I can see why you didn't finish Human Traces after reading Birdsong, this one's harder going and grimmer - also a lot of digression into medecine / pyschology. I'm about 150 in - will keep going and see if I reach the summit.
I thought "Last of the Wilds" was out here already?
Being tight I'm going to wait till it's in paperback. If you can mug a friend for it that's even cheaper:)
Common with many others I find it difficult to not finish a book even if it is dire. Definitiely should start up that support group there's too many of us. There are so many good books out there I know I should be more ruthless with the dross but ....

I wasn't asking anything - I was just making a generic point. Bit disappointing the response to this thread. I hoped there would be a lot more interest - there seem to be plenty of folks on the forum that read sci-fi and fantasy, I was looking forward to seeing what people put.
