I am reading Agent Zigzag. The true story of Eddie Chapman. Safe cracker, conman, blackmailer and spy. He spied for Germany and Britain. A tripplecross agent.
This gives you all the lowdown on espionage. How to make explosives, bombs, timing devices, codes, the lot.
Harry Ferguson,Ex- MI6...
I found Martina Cole's books to be a great read. Bit too long perhaps, about 300 pages would be enough. And written about gangsters and their families rather than a who-dunit.
I have read three of her books and enjoyed them. The Know was one, The Take and Faces.
Just finishing a Colin Dextor, Inspector Morse thriller. The Dead of Jericho, That is another series I would heartily endorse. A real thinking detective novel.

I don't think you can beat the 87th precinct novels by Ed McBain for realism. Great stories. You get to know all the characters in the 87th Precinct lilke old friends as you read through the many books he has written on this series.
Used to be a TV series many years ago.
He must have written...
Sent to Amazon for The Eddie Chapman Story. This is s true story of a safe cracker who became a spy for the germans and the British. A Film was made of it called Tripple Crosss.
Just finishing Bram Stoker's "Dracula".Written when the auther was in Whitby. Manky years since I have read this. Great Gothic horror book. Not at all superstitious myself, and have no belief in supernatural things. But find this to be a fine piece of fantacy.
John LeCarre was a spy and his real name is David Cornish of Cornwall,I'm not sure.So reading his books gives you a real insite into the world of espionage.
Reading Bram Stoker's Dracula. It has been a long time since I have read this book, but you can't beat it for gothic fantacy.
Don't usually read this kind of book, but it is a classic for a reason. It is very good.
Just finished, Dangerous by Moonlight. by Leslie Thomas. Another Dangerous, the Last Detective novel. Love these.Very humourous.
Trouble is, I don't think he wrote more than four of them.
You guys have touched upon so many things I also like. Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot are great in westerns always. shall have to look out for Jesse Stone and Christopher G. Moore.
