    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

I was reading the first about the time the prequel came out and decided to call it quits. The second and third are new and have never been opened and are gathering dust on my bookshelf.

    Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series

Foundation will be well worth your time but I've heard Fire and Ice is good too. And thus you find yourself in a predicament that we all fall into: Which book do we read now?

The Internet Top 100 SF/Fantasy List

Right. I've tried to just rate whatever I had on hand on my shelf and I keep EVERYTHING. I lost a number of really good books to roomies, moving, and just general wear and tear when I was single, so my library is much reduced. Most of what I have I've read over the last four or five years...

This is a duplicate but I couldn't figure out how to delete it. Things have changed a bit since the last time I had to do it.

    Killing Off Characters

I use the same rule for sex and killing. If it doesn't contribute to the the story line or help move it along I won't do it. I find it very difficult to kill some characters off. I will only do it if it contributes and moves along the storyline I mean, sometimes you write yourself into a...

    SECOND HAND vs BRAND NEW

Second hand shops, garage sales, outlet stores, Barnes and Noble discount table, Amazon nearly free webpage, trade in stores--Mmmm Hmmmm! I used to get nearly all my SF and Fantasy from a book swap down the street. I'd take my mom's old romance novels down there and swap them two for one for...

Do you know the Series Sickness???

Oh yes. And the dishes pile up and floor needs vacuumed and you let the fire in the fire place go out four or five times and the phone rings but you don't hear it. Your friends know better than to even call you when you have new books and your wife--if you're lucky--is curled up on the other...

    Basics for Writers

Hey how DO you get a good word count for a manuscript? What about picking a pseudonym? Is it necessary? Got any tips for writing cover letters? How do you get it all into one envelope? Is it better to have your manuscript destroyed if they reject it or have it sent back to you? Ink Jet or...

Writing's a mess, seeking new system

ah technology... Bear with me, I've been working on this awhile too. I have two writing icons on my computer desktop to preformatted Word documents. One is for outlining ideas--because sometimes you just have a bunch of details you want to put down--and the other is for writing--because...

    The Library

I hate to say it but thats one of the reasons I quit reviewing books in the first place. I did several but it was a lot of trouble to write a review and then find out the book wasn't there then wait for it to get in there, etc. I am certain that its better than it was way back when, but I...

    Wired Magazine

I like to check out Wired News online about twice a week. They have a great tech section--my favorite. And I love the links. You can follow links from story to story and there is no telling where you'll end up.

    Female Writers

Yup. A quote from an article Who is Andre Norton? andre-norton.org Born February 17, 1912 in Cleveland, Ohio, Alice Mary Norton has always had an affinity to the humanities. She started writing in her teens, inspired by a charismatic high school teacher. First contacts with the publishing...

    Fonts used in books

Unfortunately, pretty much anything else will make your manuscript look like a ransom note. Also, Times and fonts like it are probably some of the most readable fonts--it was designed that way if I'm not mistaken. Do what you wish, but if you go down the path of If I got the font I'm using it...

The Internet Top 100 SF/Fantasy List

Thanks. I'd just rate it as it stands or, if its been going downhill, rate the individual books. For instance, in Jordans Wheel of Time I've seen lots of gripes that he's stretching it out to cash in on the market. If I could stand to read the guy I'd rate the books on their own merit...

    LOTR:ROTK Special Edition DVD Set

Quite a bit and most of it actually adds to the story of the film. I was particularly fond of the bit with the Mouth of Sauron which gave me the eebee jeebies.

    The Library

Definitely a top rated books function. Mmmmm...how about a "I forgot the name of this book please help..." search function that searches through all the titles and text in all the reviews in the Library and makes suggestions based upon matches.
