    What is fun?

I don't think of the things which you describe as fun, more like personal enjoyment. Is enjoyment the same as fun? Sue Townsend is great btw. I've read all her books. 'Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction' and 'Re-building Coventry' are two of my favourites. What have you got...

Declining Interest in Book of the Month

Surely it's not just BOM which lacks support? Don't you think it's become frighteningly lonely anywhere on this site?

    first forum ever!

Please don't judge all forums by the excitement on this one! It does get almost going occasionally I believe. Sadly I've always missed that moment though. ;)

Best Book You Have Ever Read

Trainspotting is simply the best book ever written! I've heard it described as a readable Ulysses - I wouldn't know about that, as I wouldn't even attempt to read it. I loved the film, but the book makes the film seem ordinary.

    Pete McCarthy: McCarthy's Bar

I'm half-way through this. It's great. A must read for anyone with a sense of humour and an interest in the people, history and progress of Ireland.

Dee Brown: Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee

I've managed to read it all at last. It's a very sad story. Humans really are the worst animal on the planet by a distance!

Should Salman Rushdie have been knighted?

My thoughts are that he's a boring writer who used to work in advertising, hence he's good at getting himself free publicity. Free to himself that is, he's cost our country a fortune protecting him from the fatwa! Allso, if he cared at alll - he wouldn't accept it. If the threats are carried...

What Kind of Watch Do You Wear? (contains images)

I'd like to bet I'm wearing the worst watch in the world. It cost £2.50p brand new. It's about three years old, broke the buckle, mended it with an old buckle. Broke the strap keepers, use an elastic band. Smashed the glass face, stuck selotape over it. It tells the time perfectly. What...

    Best Book You Ever Read

Trainspotting - Irvine Welsh. Just because you've seen and loved the film, don't think you needn't read the book. It's brilliant.

    recommend a poem!!

The secret – Charles Bukowski. Don’t worry, nobody has the beautiful lady, not really, and nobody has the strange and hidden power , nobody is exceptional or wonderful or magic, they only seem to be. It’s all a trick, an in, a con, don’t buy it, don’t believe it. The world is...

Dee Brown: Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee

I keep trying to read this book, but it's so boring I fall into switch off. I believe it to be a true account. The Native Americans had no written language to begin with - I'm sure they managed to learn in the two hundred or so years before they were pushed out.;) Please encourage me to...

Ahhh some people are so mean!

Why did you not try the horse before you parted with cash? It sounds like you were asking for trouble to me. Always try before you buy.

who has seen a good movie lately

Music and Lyrics is quite a decent feel-good, keeps a smile on your face movie. Plus a good thump at the music industry.
