    Strange Sounding Titles...

Spitting off Tall Buildings - Dan Fante. It would appear some pop band has nicked this name now. Don't blame them. It's a great read. The third of a brilliant trilogy. Spitting Off Tall Buildings by Dan Fante (9781841951904) - Books at Borders The Minotaur takes a Cigarette Break...

Booktin does in Swarup's Slumdog Millionaire Novel

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the film, but the book is at least twice as good. Very, very easy to read, and I'm picky! Q & A has far darker areas than the film. You get to know the slumdog much better, and he's a wonderful character in so many ways. The ending in the book has a...

    Vikas Swarup: Q & A

I loved the film, but the book is so so much better. The story is the same but the details are different, much more detail and darker. Very easy to read too. I will guarantee that no one could possibly be disappointed with this book.

    Beat Generation books/ authors

Godzilla quote - '' Anyone else LOVE beat generation stuff? There's just a beautiful rhythm and sincerity and openness to the whole beat style that I just love,'' I'd agree with you if you were just talking about Jack Kerouac's style. Have you heard him read his work? His voice is wonderful...

Quentin Crisp - The Naked Civil Servant. It's mostly set before homosexuality was legalized. Great book, and the fim with John Hurt as Quentin is excellent.

    Tackling William Shakespeare

I have disagree with Wikedia on this. In my head over four hundred years is pretty old. I'm sure anyone who spoke like this to a hoody on the street would be asking for a knifing - RODERIGO Tush! never tell me; I take it much unkindly That thou, Iago, who hast had my purse As if the...

    Tackling William Shakespeare

Why do you want to read Shakespeare? Having had him shoved down my throat at school - a book a term for five years - I am very anti the great bard. Are you hoping to become an actooor? They seem to be only folk who say they lurve him. Midsummer Nights Dream I would say was the easiest...

    Mitch Albom

I have to disagree with last two posters. I read 'Tuesdays with Morrie' and was disappointed. It was OK but I'd expected something better. So I put off 'The Five People you Meet in Heaven' until this week. I found it better than I'd expected. Pretty good in fact.:)

Pauline Reage: The Story Of O

paperapostle said. 'I think this would more aptly be labeled erotica than porn'. Now there's an interesting debate! What do you think is the difference? Is it just the correct use of semi-colons, words of more than two syllables and no rude pictures which upgrades or downgrades...

    Which?

I can't get into 'God of Small Things,' but read 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' very easily and really enjoyed it. One day I know I'll pick up 'God' and stick with it. I have a feeling it will then be classed as one of my all time favs - but not yet.

Pauline Reage: The Story Of O

I read it years ago. I certainly don't remember it for the magnificent writing or wonderful story telling. I'm not saying it's badly put together or 'owt. Just that it's porn.
