Death of the book snobs; good riddance?

Most popular fiction is bad, imo. There are some good works like Philip Pullman's first two Dark Material books.

recommendations for good Sci fi/fantasy books

I'll give you something new. It's called Storm Front. It's about a wizard in modern day Chicago by the name of Harry Dresden. He takes the supernatural cases of Chicago PD. harry is also very funny and a huge smart-ass. The first book is called Storm Front, where he takes on a wizard who rips...

    Another film adaptation post

The Bone Collector and Jurassic Park should be added to the list. Both are good books, but the movies were really boring. The Bone Collector was so boring I fell asleep an hour in. Although Golden Compass deserves to be up there.

    Upcoming movies?

My most anticipated is Predators. Inception looks pretyy darn good too,a long with The Expendables. Robert Rodriguez has made a new movie called Machete coming out in September. I love Rodriguez's work, especially Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn.

    Stephen King: Cell

I've read the whole thing. It was really good. Definitely a must-read.

    Micheal Connelly: The Concrete Blonde

I've been a big fan of Harry Bosch since his first debut in The Black Echo. Always whimsical and observant. The ending also kicked some serious ass. My rating::stars4:

    Inglourious Basterds

This movie could have been much better. The dialogue seemed like endless filler time through the whole move. The only thing I liked was Brad Pitt's character, other than that I didn't like it.

    Dean Koontz: Intensity

It is ALMOST in to my top 10. I really wanted Edgler to have more parts in it(Although Chyna was an okay character). Edgler was much cooler than Chyna.

    Jim Butcher: Small Favor

Harry Dresden, our favorite wizard is back with a grueling revelation: That nobody has tried to kill him in nearly a year! All of that changes when harry Dresden is confronted by Mab,the Winter Queen, that he owes two favors to. He has to find John Marcone and while doing that, Nicodemus and his...

    Jeffery Deaver:The Burning Wire

The quadriplegic Lincoln rhyme is back in action against a terrorist who uses electricity as a murdering weapon. Meanwhile Rhyme has to help a friend track down an old nemesis in Mexico. I really can't give much without spoiling anything. My opinion: I love Rhyme's character;it's just as...

    Jim Butcher:White Night

Harry Dresden is called to a crime scene about a suicide from his friend in the Chicago PD, Karrin Murphy. Of course when Harry arrives,he discovers clues only he can find. That SOMEBODY wanted him to find. It also turns out that the victims are magically gifted and somebody(or something) is...

    Nicholas Sparks

The first book of the Alex Cross series is good, but after that the fun just starts to deteriorate. I've only read Butcher's Dresden Files(book 9 currently). I'm not a fan of fantasy, which is why I don't read his other stuff. The Dresden Files are pretty damn good(my favorite series). Although I...

    Nicholas Sparks

He must have thought that James Patterson was bad,if he kept his mouth closed. I know Patterson isn't one of the greatest author's ever, but he's better than Sparks. Any Alex Cross novel of Patterson's beats anything Sparks has.

    Dean Koontz: Velocity

Billy Wiles is a mild-mannered bartender whose life gets turned around by a note left in his car. It has a message that makes Billy choose between two lives with the choices he makes. Through out the book, the killer starts playing games with Billy. Soon Billy is effected by one of these choices...

    Never really read before...

Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten is about a badass ex-marine taking on a huge Megladon shark that surfaces from the deep. It's a funny novel, very suspenseful, and full of gore and action.

    Books that made you...

That's a fucking good book. 1) One book you would want on a desert island: Dead Beat by Jim Butcher 2) One book that made you laugh: Storm Front by Jim Butcher 3) One book that made you cry: Didn't cry,but if I had to pick,Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane 4) One book that made you you wish...

    Jim Butcher: Proven Guilty

This series just keeps being awesome :D. Dresden is called to a horror movie convention to investigate two murders. Dresden then figures out he has to save a best friends daughter from his superiors, and take on monsters that feed on fear. All in a days work for Chicago's only practicing wizard...

Jeff Lindsay: Dexter in the Dark

I hated it. It was pretty scary,I'll admit that much)(scarier than the first two). I've read the whole series, and I'm currently waiting for Dexter is Delicious coming out in September. The third book makes Dex look like a wimp;he's not nearly as funny as he was in the first two books.

Which book set you off on a life of crime (reading)?

Connelly is okay. Although I've only read 3 books from him. One of them I didn't like, but the other two were decent.
