Strange. I hated The Stand on film. They are making a new version of It on film. It is supposed to be told through the eyes of a different character. Beverly I believe
This was on my to be read list but it will be removed. I don't mind sex scenes in a book but if that is the majority what's the point. The first looke kind of interesting. What a shame
Check out Nathans Run and At All Costs from John Gilstrap. He is a good thriller writer and these are both on the run stories.
Point of Impact from Stephen Hunter. This was written when Hunter was still good. He has gone way over the top in his last few. It is being made into a movie with...
You need to check out James Swain. He has a series of books about a man who hires out to casinos trying to catch cheaters. He takes on the big cons they can't figure out on their own. Start with Grift Sense
Partial review of Grift Sense from Amazon
The first four pages of this...
If it's in the style of Parker you want Robert Crais is the way to go.
Dennis Lehane, James Lee Burke, and John Connolly are my favorites.
Lawrence Block's Hitman series is good too
Someone earlier mentioned James Lee Burke. You don't get much better than him for mysteries. His writing is excellent. Start with the Dave Robicheaux series. Start with The Neon Rain
I like to go to the used bookstores near my house and pick out random authors. I've found some of my favorites this way. A cheap way to try out new things. Most are 50+ % off and you can trade in old books for credit towards them.
One of my favorite authors and I loved the short stories. However I hate when he takes time away from Charlie Parker to write something else. That series is at the top of my list for must reads every time a new one comes out. I would also recommend The Book Of Lost Things. A really fantasy that...
I couldn't possibly disagree more. I think this may be my favorite in the series.
The movie was awful in comparison. That just may be my extreme dislike of A. Jolie. Actors and actresses should get roles based on skill not looks. I think she is awful
I believe Jesse was supposed to be around 34-35 in the first book, probably late 30's by the time of Stone Cold, so Tom Selleck is too old. I re-read the series after seeing the movie (the few minutes I could stomach) and even after seeing him in the role I still don't picture him as Jesse. He...
I just read Laymon for the first time. Into the Fire. I believe it was originally called The Glory Bus. What a mess. I can't think of how to describe this because I know horror is usually pointless but this takes it to a whole other level. What a piece of trash. A lot of you seem to think highly...
I agree completely with these recommendations. They are both very good. However check out Messiah and Storm from Boris Starling. That would be exactly what you are looking for.
He gets by on his ability as a story teller not on writing skills. If you want a decent mystery you can read in a sitting he's pretty good. I would recommend Robert Crais instead though. Just as good of a storyteller and a step up as a writer doing the same type of cookie cutter mysteries. Good...
Thanks for the Mosely recommendation. I will add this to my list.
John Connolly is quite good. He is a little violent for most people but it's good. James Lee Burke is about as good as you get.
You couldn't be any more right. This book will destroy you. I have never had a movie, book, song, poem, anything affect me the way this book did. I couldn't sleep. I felt sick. I felt angry. I was pacing around my house at 2am on a work night not knowing what to do.
