    Soup

Covent Garden company's plum tomato and basil - no preservatives and yummy!

    Pablo Neruda

I haven't read that one. Let us know what you think when you've finished it and have a great holiday!

    Pablo Neruda

Wabbit, try to read The House of Spirits - I think it's a wonderful book. Loads going on, slightly crazy, just go with your imagination.

    Used Book Stores Online

I've used abebooks.com loads of times and have never had a problem. I've never used them for fiction though so I don't know how good they are for that. They're more of a network of secondhand booksellers I think, so you can choose exactly what copy you want and which country you want to have...

Kazuo Ishiguro: An Artist Of The Floating World

An Artist of the Floating World sounds good - I'll take up your recommendation. I recently enjoyed When We Were Orphans. The writing style is great and I felt close to the characters.

    London

I used to live in South East London and loved it. Greenwich Park is one of my favourite places. However, the dirt and fear of crime was a pain. One of the things I lost most though is the history just about wherever you go. The history of the Thames - have you ever walked underneath it...

    Malcolm Pryce: Aberystwyth Mon Amour

Don't give up on it! I really enjoyed the book but, having said that, my experience may have been influenced because I went to Aberystwyth Uni so I could visualise everything. At least finish it though because the end is pretty good. :)

Isabel Allende: The House Of The Spirits

I loved this book as well and have lent it to many friends, making them read it as well :p I really loved the different characters and the way it moved through history, irrespective of which characters had died. There was a continuity to it. I haven't read any of her other books but keep...

    British Imperialism

Noam Chomsky has written a few books on imperialism in general but I don't know any titles that deal specifically with British imperialism - although I'm sure there are loads. If you want to create a balance with the other side of the argument I seem to remember Niall Ferguson published a book...

Alexander McCall Smith: The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency

It's certainly not in the line of Jeffrey Deaver et al, and I think that's what is supposed to make it so enjoyable. It's an easy-going and inoffensive read. Perfect book for holiday reading I suppose. What's wrong with Monk anyway?!! ;)

Alexander McCall Smith: The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency

I don't remember that bit. I read it a while ago but I've just read Tears of the Giraffe and I recommend that if you liked the first one. Apparently a TV series is being made. Mma Ramotswe is the kind of person I'd like to meet one day. She's got so much common sense and holds on to her values.

    Donna Tartt

I also preferred The Secret History. I couldn't put it down, even on re-readings. I did enjoy The Little Friend but it wasn't quite as good but I've never been able to put my finger on why. Like J_D, I am eagerly waiting for her next book because her writing style interests me.

    Cornetto

I think Cornettos is right, or it may be easier to say two Cornetto ice creams? Cornettoes definitely looks wrong though. Sorry I haven't been more helpful and I don't know the answer to your second question but am sure someone here will!

What Do You Do With Your Crust?

Aghhhh, Raven, you bird stalker! There's nothing better than faking an illness though. The illicit time at home is the most pleasurable. :D

What Do You Do With Your Crust?

I give it to the birds. They always wolf it down.

    Whodunnits?

The Inspector Morse series by Colin Dexter is worth a look. I really enjoyed them, although I didn't like the TV series. I would find it hard to recommend a particular one because I liked them all. Maybe it would be an idea to start from the first one, but I'm not sure which one that was...

Isabel Allende: The House Of The Spirits

I love that book. In fact, it's where I got my 'name' from on here - because my real name was already taken. Allende really takes you to that time in history doesn't she? Her characters are built so well. It's one of my favourite books.

    Marmite

I'm so glad the US isn't deprived of Cadbury's creme eggs. I have to send polos out to my friend in Virginia for her son who got addicted when they were over here. I was amazed at the size of the bags of M&Ms you can get in the US. They were the biggest bags of sweets I think I'd ever seen.

    Marmite

How about creme eggs? They are my absolute favourite. I wither away in the months between Easter and January, just waiting for them to return. How do you eat yours? I bite the top off and then take great delight in scooping all the creme out with my tongue. I guess it's a reversion to...

    Helen Fielding: Bridget Jones's Diary

It's funny how we have all formed different opinions of Bridget. I think I must be the only one who likes her. Poor old Bridget :)
