There are already two movies that are based on 'I Am Legend', 'TheLast Man on Earth' (L' Ultimo uomo della Terra) with Vincent Price and 'The Omega Man' with Charlton Heston. I haven't seen either of them yet so I don't know how faithful they are to the book.
I don't think that I've ever...
Perhaps some of them are in a language other than english.
"Cats and dogs" and "Schnürlregen" hehe. In Sweden we call it "spöregn" (rod/cane rain).
I read about 30-40 books a year. The amount of books I devour pretty much depends on my mood.
The Prydain Chronicles is a great fantasy series for youths by Lloyd Alexander. It's based on Welsh mythology. There are parts that are very moralistic but it's less dualistic than the Narnia series.
When I was around ten I loved to listen to the book 'Die schwarzen Brüder' by Lisa Tetzner...
If you liked 'Perdido Street Station' then you might like 'The Scar' by the same author and set in the same world. I haven't read the first book myself but I thought that 'The Scar' was okay. I think it's longer than 500 pages however.
Tell us what you thought of the tap water when you're back. I want to know if it's poisonous for brits or if that's just a myth. I suggest that you drink a lot of it.
It's written by Paul Auster.
I got the trilogy because I very much enjoyed 'In the Country of Last Things' by Auster and I had heard that this was his best. Even though the books in the trilogy differs a lot from it I wasn't dissapointed. It creates a wonderful mood of madness that you'll...
Welcome to the forums Gizmo.
I also prefer to read books in their original language (when that language is english). Not because translations often are poor but because I don't want to miss out on word puns and other things that are specific to the language. Even if you understand how the pun...
I don't care about the olympics but I saw something slightly interesting while I attempted to zap away my boredom. Sweden had a competitor in professional boxing which is an illegal sport in Sweden and it was shown on public service television.
I don't think that there are many newcomers that read all the 50+ pages or even the dozen latest pages to participate in the discussion in the "currently reading thread".
My guess is that they were aiming for the whole deal of identifying with his father which isn't quite what Rowling have been aiming for in the recent books.
Hopefully it will be a big deal in one of the new books so that they'll have to make drastic changes for the movie adaptation.
I suggest that at least "currently reading" is shown in the threads as well. It could replace the post count which doesn't have any useful purpose as far as I can tell. If anything a visible post count cause more harm than good as it promotes quantity instead of quality.
Instead of an...
The following line from Suicide Commando's track 'Necrophilia' always cracks me up.
"To hell with religion, you're dead I'm living."
The funny part is that it makes sense.
I found 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker dreadful and I had to force myself through it. The recent movie adaptation is better in my opinion as it gives a whole lot more personal portrait of the man with the fangs. Besides that, it's already been a book of the month.
I suggest 'The Hellbound Heart' by...
