I think this book is O Rugged Land of Gold by Martha Martin.
"Share the triumph and fear of a woman -- alone, injured, and pregnant -- stranded on a remote Alaska island in winter. Her husband fails to return from a trip, leaving her to survive a winter and give birth at their cabin, alone...
You might like Karin Slaughter's books about Dr. Sara Linton, a pediatrician and coroner in Grant County, Georgia. These books have slightly more disturbing violence than Kathy Reichs' and Patricia Cornwell's books.
Here is a website with a list of Forensics mysteries by author: Forensics...

The Secret Life of Walter Kitty by Barbara Jean Hicks
"Walter Kitty is no ordinary housecat. He's Fang—a swashbuckling protector of the high seas, a tiger waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey, and a caped superhero ready to save the day. But do his "people," Mr. and Mrs. Biddle...
I liked Grave Sight.
I liked the second book in the series, Grave Surprise, better. I really enjoyed reading about Harper's boyfriend.
And Charlaine Harris has a new book, Ice Cold Grave, coming out in September.
The Island by Peter Benchley
"The Island is yet another caribbean-based adventure tale of which Peter Benchley is so adept at weaving. The plot is fresh and original enough: a reporter takes his son on a working vacation as he tries to unravel the mystery behind an alarming amount of boat...
The Solitary by Lynn Hall
“When 17-year-old Jane Cahill leaves her uncle's house and moves to the Arkansas land she inherited from her parents, she believes that "the bad part of her life is over now," and she is right. Her harrowing childhood behind her, this is the story of Jane's first...
Some of these books are old books and semi-collectible, so you may not be able to find them easily. Don’t spend too much effort or money on your search. There are many very good books out there. But these are few of my favorites:
A Horse to Love and Hex Witch of Seldom by Nancy Springer...
I could probably list several hundred of my favorite horse books, so could you please narrow it down a little more?
Which breed of horse? Racing? Showing? fantasy? young adult? mysteries? talking horses? horse biographies? shape shifters?
Which equine books did you really...
I really enjoyed Barbara Hambly's series that starts with Dragonsbane.
Also Dragon's Winter and Dragon's Treasure by Elizabeth A. Lynn. This series is about a were-dragon.
There are over 1100 books about dragons at scific.com.

Here are two possibilities.
Dolphin Boy
by Roy Meyers - 1967
“A boy whose mother was exposed to a dose of radiation when pregnant is endowed with the power to breathe long enough to live with dolphins: fortunate indeed, because a chance explosion tosses him into the sea where a...

Robin's Country by Monica Furlong
NY: Knopf, 1995.
"Dummy, a mute orphan with only hazy memories of his past, serves a cruel master. After a particularly vicious beating, he gathers the courage to run away-no small feat in his weak, near-starved state. Forced to enter the dreaded...
Kasper in the Glitter by Philip Ridley
"Kasper goes into the city to retrieve a stolen brooch. He is enticed into the gang of the evil King Streetwise, who sets out to enslave lost children. Before the end of the tale, Kasper has to rescue his mother, kidnapped by King Streetwise, using the...
Several of Judith Tarr’s books are about the crusades, but they are fantasy books, so they may not be what you are looking for. I especially like the series that starts with Devil’s Bargain.
What does she have against working? She gets to be independent, have her own place to live, buy herself nice things, get away from that chaotic family, and basically just do whatever she wants.
I'm pretty sure that she will change her mind about getting a job when she returns home. At...
Yes, people can change. They say that the healthy ones leave.
If she was happy living with her family then she would still be there, so just the fact that she left shows that she's trying to change her life. And she's going to school! Please give her lots of encouragement. She's doing the...
