What are you listening to Right now?

I can only dream of looking that crowderesque.

Weather-how much attention do you pay to it?

If I remember right, there were around 100 tornadoes that fired off that afternoon and evening. The big one that rolled through here was an F5+ (there is no F6, but the wind speeds were actually higher than they thought possible so the scale was inadequate to measure it). I know that it was the...

Weather-how much attention do you pay to it?

Mark me down as one of those obsessed with weather. Like abecedarian, those of us in OK have learned to look up and figure out what's going on. it's not unusual for the tornado sirens to sound and the warnings to be issued just after a tornado has lifted back up off the ground and moved on...

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Join Me by Danny Wallace. Every other page I was trying to read something out loud to my wife and laughing too hard to get through it. Hitchhiker's Guide was funny stuff as well.

    I just finished reading...

Crossroads of Twilight, Book 10(!) of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series. I've come to the conclusion that reading Jordan is like being a Cub fan. Long stretches of agony punctuated by occasional bursts of joy that get you through the next long stretch of agony by teasing you with what...

What do you use as a bookmark?

My wife and kids give me bookmarks all the time so I have plenty to mark all of the places where I've stopped. Those plus assorted coupons, boarding passes, and return receipts from the library.

    Your spouse/significant other's reading habits

If you're serious about trying the game thing, you might look into Tad Williams' Otherland series. they are pretty intriguing books about life inside a virtual / video game world. Long, but they move along pretty well. Just a thought. As to Mrs. curiouswonder, she reads a book or two a...

    Last seen...

Watched What the "Bleep" do We Know the other night. Amazing movie. Mind bending quantum theory and conversations about the nature of emotion, thought, addiction, and more presented in a visually appealing and engaging way. There was some goofiness toward the end, but worth the watch if you are...

    How about Business Books?

I have heard that Guy Kawasaki is the guru of all things start-up. I haven't read any of his stuff yet, but these are sitting on my shelf waiting their turn. The Art of the Start Rules for Revolutionaries Selling the Dream There are also a number of great blogs pointed toward small...

    I just finished reading...

Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation is another book in that vein. His is more research oriented and less for entertainment than Spurlock. I haven't darkened the door (or drive-thru) of a McD's since I read it a couple of years ago. I liked Don't Eat this Book too, but Spurlock is better behind...

Did anyone catch Vonnegut on the Daily Show?

At the end of the interview with Stewart, he starts to get into some "liberal" things he is sick of hearing. Every one of them is a quote from Jesus. You can also find that list on the Daily Show site . Last year was the year of Vonnegut for me. I think I read about six of his books. It's wild...

He was interviewed last night by Jon Stewart. you can see the video here Good stuff, but Kurt is looking and sounding a bit rough these days. J

    Dave Eggers

I've read both and thought they captured the kind of restlessness and turmoil and humor and hope that seem to be wrapped up in each other in American 20-something culture. Totally agree. J

Space sci-fi with a compelling story

I would add my "yes" to the Ender Series and Dune. You might also try The Forge of God and Anvil of Stars by Greg Bear. Forge is set on earth, but Anvil (the sequel) definitely fits what you are looking for. J

top five on your TBR list?

Just curious (hrm) what the top of everyone's TBR list looks like. My next five (unless something else catches my ADD eye or comes up from the library hold list). The World is Flat - Thomas Friedman Ethics - James McLendon The Peaceable Kingdom - Stanley Hauerwas Crossroads of Twilight...
