We saw it and I would agree with most of the reviews I read going in. Great performances, but a bit slow in places. I thought they really did justice to his story. I would definitely say see it if for nothing more than the music.
I agree - the Folsom prison scene was great.
I don't have any interest in getting into the theology of these novels. Having read the first few because so many of my students were reading and asking questions about them, I've found myself with some issues with the series.
1. Without getting into it, I'm not a fan of the branch of...
My wife picks the tournament based on 1) school location 2) mascot 3) colors and 4) some random X factor that never makes sense (like picking kent st. because her dad's name is kent). We've been married 14 years and she has never finished further than 3 games behind me and has tied me more than...

TiVo is already experimenting with ads that run as you fast forward. So you might be FFing through commercials for whatever and over the top of the commercials will come up a static pitcure ad for a new movie or a car company or whatever. I've also read that they are working on figuring out how...
The next five might be. . .
Cell - Stephen King
The Meritocracy Myth - McNamee and Miller
The European Dream - Jeremy Rifkin
The Singer Trilogy - Calvin Miller
Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
...or maybe not.
At our house we've decided the only way to watch series TV is on DVD. No breaks for Christmas, Spring Break, Groundhog's Day, etc. No worries about schedule changes or decisions to run two episodes on the same night (24?). We caught season 1 of LOST in about a week and a half. It does require a...
A friend put me on to this FREE (subscription required) music "service" called pandora. It is a product of the "music genome project" were they will take a band or artist or song that you like and find other music that has some of the same elements to it. Usually from bands or artists you've...
Has anyone else read this? I finished it a couple of days ago and it has proven to be one of those that stays with me as I move on to the next book. Potok has a beautiful way of writing conversations that are full of meaning, but don't feel didactic. The descriptions and settings and characters...
Flightplan - Someone needs to get the word to the director and co. that the primary criteria of a thriller is for it to be thrilling. Yet another interesting premise dies at the hands of the Hollywood machine.
This school thing is putting a kink in my reading habits.
In February I read:
Why We Buy - Paco Underhill
Camel Club - David Baldacci
Sundiver - David Brin
Forty Signs of Rain - Kim Stanley Robinson
The Best American Non-Required Reading (2003) - ed. by David Eggers
A Million Little...
I'm a big fan of satire. When done right, it is a powerful thing.
Daily Show & Colbert - Nightly rituals.
The onion is podcasting now, about a minute a day and usually pretty good.
Another great source for religious satire (yes it exists and yes it can be pretty funny) is The Door Magazine
