    Last Great Book You Bought

"Beneath the Wheel" by Hermann Hesse. Incredible book by an interesting author. Beneath the Wheel is semi-biographical.

    H.P. Lovecraft

I think Lovecraft is good. Imaginative at times, but since there's so much of his work out there, it gets rather badgering. The nice thing about Lovecraft is that the stories are told in a simple tone. The prose are excellent, yes. It's lofty, yes, but not overly verbose. Lovecraft is a...

Pease explain why this is art.

Just out of curiousity, this isn't a trap or anything, but I found the wording of your answer strange. I am just curious for clarification, because either way you answer this will be interesting. Will you condone an action that destroys someone else's property for any reason? I'm trying...

Pease explain why this is art.

What about the guy who peed on a statue of the virgin mary as art? He peed on somebody else's property and called it art. Destroying art is still art.

    Jon Krakauer

Anybody read him? What do you think?

Pease explain why this is art.

Mm. The goldfish in the blender was always a classic. I liked that one. It was vibrant. Art is something I am rather annoyed with these days. I don't like modern art or post-modern art. I find most of it to be obnoxious. Peeing on a statue of the virgin mary, not what I would consider...

    Michael Ende: The Neverending Story

How many people have read this? How many people have seen the movies? What are your opinions on the book? I think it is one of the most amazing examples of character development. Have you read anything else by Michael Ende?

    J.D. Salinger

Angerbal and Steffee: You simply found the book to be overrated? It didn't live up to your expectations?

What is the longest book/work you've ever read?

The complete works of Edgar Allen Poe. Or the complete Brother's Grimm. Other than that, the Great Book of Amber or Atlas Shrugged.

    J.D. Salinger

Salinger A lot of people on here weren't very satisfied with Catcher in the Rye. Just out of curiousity, have you read any of his other works? If so, what did you think? If not, were there elements of Catcher that you did enjoy?

    Great Walls of America

Throwing terrorism in is silly because we are talking about the mexican/american border and illegal immigrants. If we were talking about terrorism, we would be discussing the canadian/american border. If the terrorists began to sneak from mexico to America, they wouldn't have been thinking...

    Great Walls of America

? Seriously Motokid, throwing terrorism into the issue is silly. A fence is absurd. It would alienate the United States even more. Also, I challenge you to take the U.S. Citizenship test Motokid. It's a bit more difficult than you'd assume. While our country "depends" on these illegal...

    Would You Fire Me.

Okay, so in 2 weeks you probably make 1200. And in that period of time you make about 72500 for the company. So, with those 13ish days you've been sick, the company has lost 73700.

    Would You Fire Me.

You're hourly, but they still pay you for sick days? That's strange. Well, my suggestion is simple: don't get sick so often. Obviously you're trying not too, but the whole bronch is messing things up. Think about it from the company's viewpoint. They've had you for 7, maybe 8 months...

    Question Game

Charon, the boatman for the river Styx. What's your favorite type of mythology? As in, greek, egyptian, roman, native american, etc.

    Would You Fire Me.

Are you being paid by the hour or do you have a set salary? If by the hour, I would probably just give you less hours and not rely on you so much. If it was a set salary, I would probably fire you if you've used up all your vacation/sick days.

    C.S. Lewis

Mere Christianity is a mindblowing book. Despite its title, I think all people should read it, considering some interesting philosophy questions it raises. The issue of Lewis being a product of his culture and time is questionable. Arabs were not viewed as particularily bad, considering it...

    Most Disappointing Authors?

Kerouac. Everyone I know loves "On the Road." It's the only book I've never finished and have no intention to finish. Plain and simple: it sucked. Though, I am going to try to read Dharma Bums. I hear that's the Kerouac novel for Kerouac haters.

    Ken Kesey

I've heard that "Sometimes a Great Nation" is really good. But, if you want to read ABOUT Ken Kessey, read "The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe. I just finished that book, and it was incredible.

What do you think of classics "for children"?

While I was reading classics at a young age, I would have appreciated if some of them were condensed. Some books were abridged for a reason. Take "Moby Dick" for example. I read the unabridged version, and was so fed up with details by the end of it. I imagine the abridged version is a...
