Uzodinma Iweala: Beasts Of No Nation

I look forward to reading it eventually, but I've got about 25 other books waiting on my shelf. Hopefully, by the end of summer, they will have dwindled down a bit, and I can pick up some new books. I really am anticipating it, though.

Who is your favourite author, and why?

My favorites are Philip Roth, Kurt Vonnegut, and Gabriel Garcia Márquez.

Suggestions: July 2006 Book of the Month **Non-Fiction Only**

It's finally getting a little competitive, so I'd like to third Devil in the White City and second 1491.

    Looking For Headache Inducers

Is John Irving really that thought-provoking as to be the first author listed twice?

    Quotation Game

I thought this might possibly liven things up. Someone names one quote, another guesses, then the one with the right answer gives a new one or lets someone else give it a go. There have to be some ground rules, though. Let's work on the honors system and promise not to use Google, huh? And...

    Looking For Headache Inducers

Well, you can't go wrong with philosophy if you're looking for something to stimulate the mass of gray matter we call a brain. Kierkegaard: Fear and Trembling Nietzsche: The Genealogy of Morals I have a good collection of Marx's writings, so if you're looking for an interesting read, I'd...

    Any good books?

While they aren't "young adult," other fun dystopian novels include Brave New World, 1984, and Player Piano.

    Best Science Fiction Films

Oh, yes, Blade Runner, Brazil, and Dark City are all wonderful. I also really like John Carpenter's The Thing, although I suppose that would be more of a horror film. One current favorite isSerenity, based off the Firefly television series.

Do you keep a book list?

For the sake of brevity, I only maintain two lists on my computer but bolden the books on either list which I own. ;)

    April 2006 Reads

Forgot yet another one: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I was really impressed by the Sandman series and I'd heard this one was comparable to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in funniness, so I must admit disappointment. Still a fun and easy read, though.

Do you keep a book list?

I've just formatted my list to Excel so it's easier to navigate and insert new titles. In the last few days, I've determined the order for my summer reading list, but I'm sure that'll go to hell once I've picked up Mother Night, Black Swan Green, Everyman, White Noise, The History of the World...

Need Help 2 Select A Good Manga!!!

Hellsing is definitely my fave. I like Full Metal Alchemist and Bleach, but their shows are excellent in their own right. Hellsing, though... Nazis, vampires, mercenaries... I don't know how you could possibly go wrong with that equation.

    April 2006 Reads

Oh, I forgot Operation Shylock by Philip Roth. Probably my favorite read of the month, and I forgot it very nearly. I also re-read American Pastoral.

    Hey Everybody!

Hi, my name is Kyle. I'm a college student, and I'm currently waiting for my classload to dwindle in hopes that I can actually read some works of my own choosing. I just finished an English class in which I read eleven books by Philip Roth, so I'm rather obsessed with him right now. Another...

    Hello Everyone!

Hey Everybody Oops, did this wrong. However, it is very nice to meet you. I'm a big fan of Christie's Ten Little Indians. But, then again, who isn't?

    Sandman--should I or shouldn't I?

It's best to start off from the beginning of the series, but, as mentioned earlier, don't be scared off by the first volume... it's stays a bit more closely connected to its comic book roots than the others. I'd recommend buying Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll's House at the same time, as I...

    please help

Damn, people! Yield! Hehe, I am always going to check my spelling around here. Anyway, Goodbye, Columbus is a pretty easy read, and it's only about 130 pages. And I've never found anybody who thought Vonnegut was a hard read.

    Cheap Book Finds

I just picked up Seize the Day by Saul Bellow, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Salvador by Joan Didion, The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, The End of the Road by John Barth, The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene, The Hours by Michael Cunningham, The...

Suggestions: July 2006 Book of the Month **Non-Fiction Only**

Okay, I think I have the hang of this now. I was looking through previous threads and seeing how this process worked previously, so I apologize for that earlier post. That said, please ignore that post and know that I formally nominate: Shake Hands with the Devil by Romeo Dallaire
