I'm very tempted to move to your town ! I was member of an online reading club a couple of years ago. One of the reasons I quit is that I couldn't always afford to buy the book of the month, which sometimes was a rather expensive hardback. I was astonished how easily other members, especially...

You must be kidding ! Even if the book were available in French, our library surely would not to have it. Although I live in a fairly large city, our local library is a joke. I don't think they have any novels that were released after 1980. Thank heaven, we have some good bookstores and one of...

I had "princes if Ireland" in muy hands when I last visited London, but put it back on the shelf because I still had "London" to read. I am sorry now I didn't buy it because I've read "London" in the meantime and truly enjoyed it. Some chapters were more captivating than others. I especillay...

I read " the Eyre Affair" this summer. I hadn't enjoyed a book so much in a long time. Just read" lost in a good book" and enjoyed it as well. I haven't bought number 3 and 4 so far, although I always am tempted when I am at the bookstore, but I hope to get them second-hand sometime.

Ken Follett: The Pillars Of The Earth

Thank you for the advice. I hate giving up a book, anyway, and do that only if I truly hate it.

    Hello . I'm new

I am a bit disppointed by "Pillars of the earth" so far. It isn't as enthralling as I hoped, but I ahve only read 120 pages so far and I am told it is worth hanging on.

Welcome, Tamsine. What do you plan to read next, after TPOTE? __________________ Thank you for your welcome. I often read several books at the same time. I usually have one in my bag, one on my bedside table and one in the living-room. I started " the Dante Club" weeks ago. I like the...

Who are your favorite mystery writers?

For those who like historical mysteries I'd suggest you try novels by Janet Gleeson. She doesn't seem to be well-known. I picked up " the grenadillo box " at a bookstore by chance some months ago and absolutely loved it. Recently, I read " the serpent in the garden" which I enjoyed just as...

    Thomas Hardy

I first read " the return of the native" and was instantly hooked by Thomas Hardy's writing. I then read " life's litlle ironies" and " the well-beloved" which I enjoyed less. Had I started with those, I might not have gone on reading his other works. My most recent read was " the...

Oscar Wilde: The Picture Of Dorian Gray

I read it several years ago and loved it. I remember he described the flowers in the garden so vividly I thought I could smell them. It is a pity he wrote no other novels.

Ken Follett: The Pillars Of The Earth

Pillars of the earth I started reading it two days ago and I must say I am disppointed. I had heard so much about it and it regularly is listed among the most popular books of all times. It is OK, but not as enthralling as I expected. Well, to be honest, I've only read 120 Pages so...
