What do you use as a bookmark?

I'm naughty. I ALWAYS ALWAYS bend the page corner EXCEPT when the book doesn't belong to me. :o

Hello from the Emerald Isle :)

I started with Enid Blyton too. I probably haven't progressed intellectually must past her either (I like children's stories, so much that I write them now). Anyway, welcome to Book & Reader Brook11

    Leader of the Pack

This is an extract (3 pages) of my 3rd mini-adventure gamebook for children aged between 9-13: ~1~ The mournful chorus of howls rouses you from your light sleep. Sitting in your favourite chair, you barely open one eye. In front of you are the lively flames still dancing around within...

Do the characters/scenes from books play out in your mind's eye?

Always! That too! Is this my entry? LOL. It may as well be. Agree, with one exception..."Lord of the Rings." When I read LOTR, I particularly enjoy hearing the voices of Billy Boyd (Pippin), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) in my head...

Who is your favorite fictional character and why?

Admittedly, these responses are probably coloured by how they were portrayed in movies. Female: Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables) - A character with spirit Male: Aragorn (LOTR) - Loyal, came to greatness out of a (nearly) dead history but won against the odds. Animal: Eeyore - His...

Does reading books make you smarter?

As an author, reading other books certainly helps one become a better writer, I can say that much at least.

    Hellooooooooooo

I remember reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was fifteen. It was a text my class had to read as part of Year 10 English. I do remember, though, that I probably wasn't mature enough at the time to appreciate that story fully.

    Adenture books

I've picked that one up in my local library a few times and put it down again every time. I'll have a closer look through it next time ;)

    Adenture books

Hi Giddieon, Did you have a particular favourite Fighting Fantasy book that stood out from the others? I always thought Creature of Havoc was a text that was written very well with the successful usage of new ideas, as far as gamebooks were concerned.

    Author of Shiva's Messenger

To nyse, I've read the various comments on this thread and I have a question for you. Do you believe that the concept of absolute truth exists in the universe?

    Are you a re-reader?

I used to re-read prolifically as a child; the older I got, however, the less I did it. I've noticed this trait (re-reading) with my children too, they can re-read a book over and over before they are bored with it. Part of the reason I got into reading gamebooks as a tween and then a teen...

About to be published but want to promote my writing via other works

Thanks Nick, that would be great (linking to my free book from your site and reviewing it). I actually have two mini-books now, and an on-the-shelf book as well (only released two days ago!). The link in my signature takes you to my site, where all three books are mentioned (and where you can...

    Favourite Faraway Tree story

Make sure you have a cushion when you do! If I remember rightly, Curious Connie didn't once and wore out the back of her frock. :p :)

    Can't throw away books

Hi nickupton, Welcome to the group. I had a little look at your blog; it is quite nicely laid out. I also had a read of your "Green Eggs and Ham" review. I haven't read that (the book) for years. Jasan.

Hi and welcome. What fantasy titles do you like? (I like Tolkien and C.S.Lewis' work)

    Adenture books

To Dawnfletch: One step along from Choose Your Own Adventure was Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf. This added a further element to making choices: Rolling dice. This was part of a game system that included a sheet to record happenings in your adventure. This would have a direct flow-on...
