I started with Enid Blyton too.
I probably haven't progressed intellectually must past her either (I like children's stories, so much that I write them now).
Anyway, welcome to Book & Reader Brook11
This is an extract (3 pages) of my 3rd mini-adventure gamebook for children aged between 9-13:

The mournful chorus of howls rouses you from your light sleep. Sitting in your favourite chair, you barely open one eye. In front of you are the lively flames still dancing around within...
Always!
That too!
Is this my entry? LOL. It may as well be.
Agree, with one exception..."Lord of the Rings."
When I read LOTR, I particularly enjoy hearing the voices of Billy Boyd (Pippin), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) in my head...
Admittedly, these responses are probably coloured by how they were portrayed in movies.
Female: Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables) - A character with spirit
Male: Aragorn (LOTR) - Loyal, came to greatness out of a (nearly) dead history but won against the odds.

I remember reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was fifteen. It was a text my class had to read as part of Year 10 English. I do remember, though, that I probably wasn't mature enough at the time to appreciate that story fully.

I've read the various comments on this thread and I have a question for you. Do you believe that the concept of absolute truth exists in the universe?
I used to re-read prolifically as a child; the older I got, however, the less I did it.
I've noticed this trait (re-reading) with my children too, they can re-read a book over and over before they are bored with it.
Part of the reason I got into reading gamebooks as a tween and then a teen...
Thanks Nick, that would be great (linking to my free book from your site and reviewing it). I actually have two mini-books now, and an on-the-shelf book as well (only released two days ago!). The link in my signature takes you to my site, where all three books are mentioned (and where you can...
Could you send some of the rain down here please, we're in a nasty drought/low water storage down under at the moment. :p
Hi and welcome LIB, btw. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Jasan
Hi nickupton,
Welcome to the group. I had a little look at your blog; it is quite nicely laid out. I also had a read of your "Green Eggs and Ham" review. I haven't read that (the book) for years.
Jasan.
To Dawnfletch:
One step along from Choose Your Own Adventure was Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf. This added a further element to making choices: Rolling dice. This was part of a game system that included a sheet to record happenings in your adventure. This would have a direct flow-on...
