This is an extract (3 pages) of my 3rd mini-adventure gamebook for children aged between 9-13:

The mournful chorus of howls rouses you from your light sleep. Sitting in your favourite chair, you barely open one eye. In front of you are the lively flames still dancing around within your fireplace. Will you:
Ignore the noise and return to your blissful rest? Turn to 10
Stand up? Turn to 20

You are still in a state of relaxation, and fall asleep again quite quickly.
Time passes. You are not sure exactly how much but you are soon rudely awakened once more by a loud crashing noise outside, followed by the bleating of sheep - Your sheep! The initial clatter sounded like it came from your barn, where your animals sleep each night. Will you:
Look out the window? Turn to 5
Run outside and head for the barn? Turn to 15

You rub your eyes and get to your feet. Briefly, you consider what you have just heard. To you, the howling noise sounded like a pack of wolves. Being a farmer, you are wary of wild animals attacking your sheep. At this stage, with your flock shut away inside your barn, they should be safe. You don’t want to take any chances, however.
