    Hi

Hi Bobbyburns, It had its moments. I remember there was a tree in the middle of the cemetery called the witching tree, which was supposedly an ancient gathering place for witches. Don't know how true it was, but to a fertile imagination ... ;)

    Shadowed Realms

Thanks for your kind words Joshua, My book has received good reviews, but it has also received bad reviews that I took on board. I hope I have now learned from my mistakes, and that the two novels written after Evilution have benefited from it (the agent currently interested in my work likes...

    Hi

Thanks Chewie and Abecedarian, Growing up in a house in a cemetery was certainly unusual. When you consider people expect to finish their lives at such a place, and not start there, I wonder whether I'm living my life in reverse

    Any Clive Barker fans?

I enjoyed his early work, which was more horrific, but then he turned his mind more to fantasy, and I stopped reading. My favourite books by Barker were 'The Hellbound Heart' and 'Cabal'.

Do you judge a book by its cover?

The cover doesn't make me buy a book, but it certainly makes me pick it up if it's striking - then it's a matter of turn the book over and read the back summary to see whether it sounds like something I'd like to read.

A question for the writers amongst us...

I write because I enjoy it (feel compelled to do it), but if other people enjoy it too, then I consider it a bonus. The fact that people pay me for said writing is just the icing on the cake.

    Richard Laymon

That would be Body Rides: When Neal rescues a woman from a vicious assault, she gives him a magic bracelet, which allows him to step inside other people to experience their feelings. But the woman's attacker is out for revenge, first on her, then Neal, and Neal must use the gift to look inside...

    Hi

Thanks for the welcome, and Halo, you could say I'm the 'real' Shaun of the Dead ;)

    Richard Laymon

I'm a big fan of Laymon. My favourites are The Stake, Night in the Lonesome October, The Travelling Vampire Show and his semi-autobiographical book on writing, A Writer's Tale. It was a shame he never received the recognition he deserved in the US while he was alive.

Anybody read The Haunting of Hill House?

It's been a while since I read this book, but from what I recall, it is a classic tale that is well worth reading (reminds himself to seek it out of the cupboard and reread)

    Hi

Hi, A quick introduction. My name is Shaun Jeffrey and I write horror/speculative fiction. I grew up in a house in a cemetery, which although it may explain a lot, gave me a perfect grounding for writing dark prose. I look forward to delving deeper into the forum and getting to know you all.
