Who likes The Sound of Music?

LOVE it. When I was a kid, we used to rewind the marionnette show and watch it again . . . and again . . . and again . . . Did you know there's a book? The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp. It's hilarious, and a must-read if you're a fan of the movie.

Top Ten List Of Best Humor Books

How about Anguished English by Richard Lederer? Great if you're a book / grammar / English nerd.

    Artemis Fowl

I have read the first book and enjoyed it. I was kind of worried, though. My little sister (about 8 at the time) read it and she didn't understand the difference between "protagonist" and "good guy." I think this book, when read by young children with big imaginations, calls for discussion with...

    Hard to find titles

Two ideas: eBay, but it sounds like you've tried that. I've had good luck there; you just have to check every week or so. Interlibrary loan. True, the book won't be yours, but I bet some library somewhere has it. Try to find it and get it through interlibrary loan. If your local library...

    L.M. Montgomery

I am a big fan of L.M. Montgomery's books, and have read all of the Anne of Green Gables books, Emily of New Moon books, and many others. I've been collecting them and as many are out of print I have had to turn to eBay. I tend to like her novels and series better than her short stories, which...

    C.S. Lewis

I love C.S. Lewis. I enjoy reading the Chronicles of Narnia both for the story and also for the Christian imagery and symbolism in it. It is written in a manner so that children can easily understand it, yet it still holds interest for adults. I am so excited to hear that a film is in the works...

    Will Harry Die? (spoilers)

I don't think that they can both live because of the prophecy in the fifth book--the one that says that either Harry or Voldemort must die. I don't think Harry would join Voldemort. He has already resisted well under great temptation. But even if he did for some reason, I still think one of them...

    Will Harry Die? (spoilers)

I think you are justified in thinking that per the evidence from the books you pointed out--I especially like the bit about Dumbledore. I agree that Harry could certainly die. I just wonder if Rowling is brave enough to do it. I think that she will certainly take Voldemort down from power...

    Craft Books

My favorite craft book is The American Girls' Handy Book by Lina and Adelia Beard. It's a turn-of-the-century publication for girls denoting hundreds of crafts and activities with charming illustrations. I've actually written a review / recommendation of it, which you can find on my web site. I...

has there been any movie that was......

The Scarlet Pimpernel was much better as a movie. The book is downright badly written. The movie version is more polished.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to check them out.

    Will Harry Die? (spoilers)

In another thread, someone asked whether Harry might die at the end of the series. Since it wasn't really related to the subject, I thought I'd open up a new one. I think she could justifiably kill him off. I don't think she will, but she would be justified in doing so. Authors can do...

    Ex Libris / Anne Fadiman

Has anyone read Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman? I absolutely adored it. It's the ultimate book for book lovers, a collection of personal essays. It makes you feel less extreme--no one could ever be as bad as the author and her family when it comes to caring about books. I'm curious to know what...

Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I love 'em. Not as good as some others, but I like having a series to read. 11 are currently out. I heard somewhere that there will be 26 books, one for each letter of the alphabet (not in order) but I don't know if that's true. I get a kick out of the definitions that the author gives for 'big'...

    The Book Nook: Book Reviews

I have written some book reviews that are posted at the link in my sig, but I'm feeling kind of insecure about my writing--I don't know if it's any good or if it's just trash and I should give up. I'd appreciate it if you'd look at some of my work and give some feedback. ladyjune

    Writing Maniac

Hi! My name is ladyjune, and I can't stop writing. Help, anyone? Okay, okay. I don't mind that I love to write, and I don't intend to stop. I also am a book moron and own so many books that I can't find room for them all. I've started reviewing some of my collection and would like to know...
