    Book Collector Software

I recently found this website while searching around for some decent cataloging software for home use. I had looked around a couple of years ago, and I couldn't really find anything to my liking. After trying out the trial for this software, I felt that it was exactly what I needed to keep...

    Harry Potter: British vs. American

I've read both versions for all the books, and the only differences I've noticed are when there's an obvious difference in vocabulary. I don't think it really changes the quality of the story though. I don't even think I would have noticed the differences if I hadn't read them so many times, and...

Unknown Quantity: A Real and Imaginary History of Algebra, John Derbyshire

    Stephenie Meyer: Breaking Dawn

I agree that it was not as convincing. I've heard opinions of it reading like fanfiction, and I have to agree. It just felt weird, like it wasn't the real story.

The Mysterious Benedict Society - Trenton Lee Stewart

I haven't been to the website. I didn't even know there was one. I'll have to check it out.

    Book recommendations for a preteen?

I second Ender's Game (although there were some pretty violent scenes) and the Mysterious Benedict Society. And most of the others mentioned.

Saddest/Most Depressing Novel You've Ever Read

The Grapes of Wrath and Atonement. I didn't like the Grapes of Wrath, but I loved Atonement. I don't usually go for depressing stuff because I read to be happy and not think about depressing things in life.

The Mysterious Benedict Society - Trenton Lee Stewart

I really enjoyed it, but I tend to read a lot of children's books anyway. I would recommend it to anyone with children, or anyone who enjoy children's books.

The Mysterious Benedict Society - Trenton Lee Stewart

I was wondering if anyone has read this book. The author graduated from my school, Hendrix College, and he gave a talk last semester. That's what got me interested in the first place. There are two books so far, and they are great children books, especially for bright children. The stories...

Anyone ever read two books at once?

I usually read at least a couple of books at the same time. I have to been in a certain mood for certain books, so I have to move around a lot.

Orson Scott Card to J.K. Rowling

Yes, it is. I haven't seen it in forever though.

Orson Scott Card to J.K. Rowling

Just because everyone knows the source doesn't make it illegal to not properly cite a copyrighted work.

Orson Scott Card to J.K. Rowling

I happen to love both Rowling's and Card's works. But he is being ridiculous to claim that she stole his plot. The coming-of-age plot is all over the place, especially in fantasy. Card makes weak links between the two works, like games played in the air. Quidditch and the battle room have never...

do you keep track of the books you read?

I keep a list of books I read, which includes title, author, date finished, number of pages, type of book or number in series, and a rating based on my own rating system. I think I might drop the rating though and add a start date.

    What books have you hated?

I think the books that I've hated reading were all in English. 1. Walk Two Moons - Sharon Creech 2. My Brother Sam Is Dead - A bad writer I don't remember 3. The Pearl - John Steinbeck 4. The Great Gatsby - Fitzgerald The last two I can begin to appreciate from a writing stand point...

What a Wonderful World - Joey Ramone

Audrey Niffenegger: The Time Traveler's Wife

I enjoyed it. I thought that the plot was both intriguing and unique, and the characters had some depth to them.
