Dark in places yes. and there are a few bits that will make you jump Scary no. The effects are amazing and that normally means its a bad film but this isnt. it's not a film which will change your life or anything but its a film worth seeing. in my opinion.
I read this recently and I'd say its required reading for anyone who opposes the war in Iraq. Some amazing facts in there, put together in George's unique style. He really does have a way with words and displays great flair in getting his point across.
Some very funny moments in there too...
In my opinion its the best TV programme ever made.

I've read a good few of his books and enjoyed them all very much. I actually think he has some better books than The Godfather and wonder why more havent been made into films. Although of course he did write the screenplay for Superman 1.

It's a wonderful book, showing the depth and scope of JRRT's imagination. It answers so many unanswered questions from LOTR.
Those who havent read it cant possibly appreciate LOTR as much without knowing about the Valar and the Maiar, and therefore the true nature of the Istari and of Sauron...
