I assume that historical mysteries are so common now in part because many writers and readers just prefer not to have to factor in today's technology. I do think Christie and Conan Doyle could have had their detectives do their stuff in this day and age--just as in their day, Hercule Poirot and...

I freely admit that I'm confused about what is and is not allowed here. Maybe that's just me being an American. In the U.S. at least, "no politics" means don't bring up topics like abortion and gun control, period. But since those aren't really hot-button issues in the U.K., they aren't...
My dad was a Marine (Vietnam), my grandfather was a Marine (WWII Pacific), my grandmother was a Marine (WWII Womens Reserve). It's funny when I tell people in person, because Marines are supposed to be so tough, and I'm so puny.
