What current trends have you noticed in fiction? Changes in the way stories, characters, settings, plots etc., are written or produced? Which of these trends do you applaud? Which ones are you hoping will go out of fashion?
That reminded me... I saw someone reading Jane Eyre on the bus today, and while I can't say I hated this book, I did find it terribly exhausting. I couldn't figure out what this person would read it for leisure.

I wonder, sometimes, if reading lists for school hurt more than help. Sometimes I suspect that, due to school reading lists, I ended up looking at reading as more of a chore than a joy.
One too-long book I read recently was Kushiel's Dart. It could have been quite an excellent book if it had been made a trilogy instead of a book. But there was simply too much happening in one volume!
