    Book Parties

Are there book parties like there are Tupperware parties or Mary Kay parties? My sister just had a purse party. If you could sell purses in the home, why not books? Have you guys ever heard of anyone doing this? One of the big book chains should do this. I would definately have one of these...

    History Buffs....I have a question.

Thanks guys. I know I could probably use a lesson in laundry, and cooking, and probably accounts also.

    History Buffs....I have a question.

I'm working on an article, and I need a little history background. The only problem is that I can't find the information that I'm looking for anywhere. I tried searching for it, but found nothing. Okay, what I need is this: 18th century women's education. I basically need to know...

    How do you feel when....

I love to see that I am not the only one that feels this way. I always felt like I was insane or something to get that wrapped up in a book. I guess because I really don't know anyone else who reads that much. I will reread a book over again if it is a really complex book. I want to go...

    best book to movie adaptation

The original Little Women was a very good adaption, but the newer one goes off course, don't you think? It's good to watch, but things are added, and so much is cut out. Three quarters of the book is missing.

    My First "Official" Book Review

Congrats! They compared you to Stephen King and Poe. Amazing.

What book should be REQUIRED reading for everyone?

I think Poe would be a good choice. Kids love creepy stories. When I was in highschool I loved doing Shakespeare because we always got to have movie days with it. Really, I think they would be interested in anything that would make the soccor moms cringe. And if there is even one cuss word...

    LOTR V/S Harry Potter

I vote for Harry Potter if I have to compare the two. Not being a fan of sci fi, I am kind of biased though. I think both will last for a very long time into the future though.

    Forum Temperature: Future of literature?

I think we all know what the criteria is for crap fiction, but what is the criteria for great literary fiction. If we read a contemporary novel, how do we know if it is going to be the next Gatsby, Mockingbird, or even Jane Eyre or Two Cities?

    Classics that disappoint

Oh no! I loved Dracula. I thought it was one of those discreetly scary books. You know, the kind you don't really think is scary until you realize that you are looking over your shoulder and jumping at every little thing. I get tired of the kind of scary novels that are full of blantant...

    what do you recommend??

Does anyone else notice that when most people admit to reading Harry Potter, they always apologize for it in the same breath? What is that about? I don't think anyone should ever be ashamed for reading anything. Even dime store romances. Well, maybe some dime store romances! :p Joking, joking.

    Favourite Poetry

I always hated poetry until I was required to take a poetry class my junior year. I learned how to read it and what I was looking for, and I began to love it. Donne is one of my favorites. They way his mind works amazes me. There is also a really great poem that talks about a young child...

    Classics that disappoint

I'm voting for Moby Dick as the worst classic (Sorry Prof. Mooney at Immaculata University). Actually, I couldn't put Wurthering Heights down. It was very depressing though. I have to agree with the Dickens' crowd too. I know it's blaphemy, but talk about getting into sentences you...

10 most dangerous books of the 19th and 20th century

Interesting debate. I agree with the need to rebut the questional books. Censorship makes me nervous because I always wonder: once people get rolling, where do they draw the line. My sister-in-law will tell anyone who will listen that Harry Potter is an evil book and she won't let her teenage...

    Grants for writing.

Thanks fo the help. I guess I'm going to have to enter a contest, but I hate to do that because it will take me away from my real work. I guess there's no rest for the weary!

    Grants for writing.

Hi everyone, I have a few questions for you. Has anyone here ever gotten a grant for writing a novel? Where can a person find a grant to write? What if the novel never gets published? What is the grant to be used for? What do you have to give back (hardly anything is free, right)? I've...

What 's your favourite book character?

Jo from Little Women. She tries so hard to be good, but it never works!

    The best so far?

Mine is Dracula. It gave me all the chills, with out all the blood and gore.

    Harry Potter Book 5

I just finished the 5th book, and I thought it was great. The longer the better. But I do agree with a previous poster that all the bickering back and forth got really annoying sometimes. I skipped a lot of pages because of it.

    Hi

hi everyone. I'm new here and I find it comforting to know that I am not the only one who has trouble letting books go. It's hard for me to even lend my favorite books to my friends and family. I'll direct them to the library, or buy it for them.
