the original trilogy is the best..
enders shadow is very weak, in my opinion, and also revisionist to the degree that it destroys the work of the original trilogy
as for children of the mind, i know i read it but i recall nothing. this is not a good sign
ok
the bees also represent things like Jack's alcoholism..ie something that he thinks is dead is not, comes back to life, harms his son....see?
Jack deciding to let the boiler climb in pressure is a fairly self explanatory metaphor...building pressure, again repressed things, ignored things...
well, i suppose it depends on her reading level
but i would suggest watership down, it is engrossing, exciting, has no wizards or elves, is good on a lot of levels, kids can read it as an adventure, adults get more allegory out of it, and depending where the kid is, she can get something out of...
really bizarre take on the genre
not too long ago, i read the hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocolpse..it was a lot of fun, and really strange..the basic premise is a string of murders in "toy city", which is a sort of gritty, noir-ish toytown, populated by gollies, dollies, clockwork toys...
you might also like Anthem by Ayn Rand ( i would normally not reccomend her, as her politics are atrocious, but this is a pretty good book),a nd definately a distopia

everyone seems so crazy about amazon
and i just don't get it. I get everything from www.booksxyz.com
first of all, it is cheaper
and secondly, all of its profits go to schools, instead of lining some corporate guy's pocket
I think the small, local bookstore will always be around..at...
i only suggested a clockwork orange because i was under the impression we were talking required reading for high school students
for grown ups, read 'darkness visible"
Endymion
You know this place, a road stretching forever in strict one point perspective, the merciless grid of crops; corn, soybeans, weeds, white gravel roads and dust that hangs in the air forever. Then the bruised sky turning and rolling, the distant scream of a train and the day dying, the...
try these
Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry
A great twisted Delerium tremens of a novel, a hallucinatory, poetic, fractured look into the soul of an eloquent, cultured drunk on his final day...I cannot reccomend this one enough..one of the great overlooked writers, and undoubtably this is...
Waterland
an incredible, engrossing, funny, tragic, detailed novel that involves the geography of the english fens, the mating habits of eels, beermaking, WW1 trench warfare, family history, meditations on the nature of history, romance, insanity and the philosophy of teaching and manages to...
"I've already placed an order for 'Umberto Eco Foucaults Pendulum'.I hope its good.Care to tell the synopsis of it."
