yeah it's stand alone... awesome stand alone book though

I would like to suggest a book that I doubt many of you have read (if any of you have read it let me know because i've never met someone who has)... the book is called Winter's Tale and it was written by Mark Helprin... it is a low fantasy story... i believe the back cover describes it best...

what you are describing sounds a lot like Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea books... they have the true name element you're describing... but i've never read that scenario... at least i don't think i have... it's been a long time since i read those... i should pull them off the shelf and read them again

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is the most similar to Douglas Adams' books... i think anyway... very fun... and with his type of humor
