The Diamond Throne by Eddings was nominated for July's book discussion :) I've read very little by David Eddings, as he's not an author I've been able to engage with.
So what do others think of this book?
I got sidetracked from the Garth Nix book as a couple of Library books came in that I've had on order for a while :)
One was Alosha by Christopher Pike. I'd always thought he wrote horror. But this is a first book in his new fantasy series. It was OK, though not as mature as I'd like and...
I think his work will appeal to people who like to delve into the darker side of peoples relationships.
I'm not one for that kind of story. It's too much like real life to me. I prefer the fantasy books I read to be an escapism. Not that I dont mind gritty storylines in a fantasy book, but...
I read Sarah Micklem's Firethorn last week. Her first book. Quite well written, but a very grim story :( I tend to prefer a book that includes a little bit of hope.
Now reading Drowned Wednesday by Garth Nix :D
I prefer newer authors even newer than the ones you mentioned. I tend to look out for new authors, such as Kelley Armstrong, Lian Heard, Sarah Micklem, Sarah Ash etc. Authors who are havent been on the fantasy scene long :D
She's on of those author's I'd like to try, but my library doesnt have her books and I've so many others I want to buy first.
I will get one of her books at some point.
Which book would be the best to get first?
I ended up quite enjoying the book, but was a little disappointed to find the rest in the series are going to be difficult to get.
I'm reading Sea Beggars by Paul Kearney at present, the first book in the Mark of the Ran series :)
Each of the following have had one nomination each so far -
Midshipman's Hope by David Feintuch
The Diamond Throne by Eddings
Babel 17 by Samuel Delany
The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
The 2nd book ended on a high note, and Im hoping the third book will be more interesting than the 2nd. It wasnt until Gavril was joined with the Demon host again that this book got interesting.
