Just curious: what instilled in you all your love of reading/books? I don't even remember even how I got started loving to read, but I can remember always prefering to read rather than do anything else. But then again, I was always the "weird" kid who finished the book the night the teacher...
I have two shelves in my room, and my reference books and classic novels go on those, as well as my collection of Reader's Digest Condensed books. The rest of my books are stacked all around the room against the wall. I am running out of space, and because of that there is very little...
Has anybody read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card? It was recommended to me and I was just wanting to get other's opinions and feedback, and if it is a good read. :)
My cousin suggested that I read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert Heinlein, and from that moment I was obsessed. Does anyone else out there just think that he is the greatest author ever? What are your favorite Heinlein books? Mine are Citizen of the Galaxy and Starship Troopers. :o
When you are assigned reading in school, does that make you less likely to enjoy it? It just seems that of all the great books out there, schools choose books that are uninteresting or even boring. This discourages kids from reading. I hear all the time people saying that they don't like to...
Why do we all love to read? Is it purely for entertainment? To gain insight? To learn? To escape? To look smart? I was just wondering what it is about reading that I am so obsessed with, and I guess that for me, it is for a lot of reasons, namely for entertainment and books make you think and...
I read as much as I can, usually about 3 hours a day, more on the weekends. I always carry a book with me no matter where I go because I like to take advantage of any spare moment I have. I envy all of you who can read 5 or 6 hours a day!
Ok I am confused. I have been reading the posts, and if I understand correctly, some of the libraries in Europe charge? for things like getting a book from another branch or reserving a book? I don't know how it is as a general rule throughout the United States; maybe I am just really lucky, but...
I would love to be able to read in cars, but I will vomit within minutes. Even reading on planes is enough to make me nauseous. So I settle for listening to music.
Oh geez I have about 30 books in my "to-read pile". My mom gets mad because every time I go to the bookstore or thrift store I come back with like 10 more books, and I have taken over all the shelving in the house for my "library". I'm obsessed.
Wow my favorite authors....many great ones out there. I would have to say my favorites are Robert Heinlein, George Orwell, and Ken Follett. C.S. Lewis is also great, and Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn. and Alan Paton, Boris Pasternak, Tolstoy, the list goes on and on.
