Just saw this the other night. What are people's opinions?
I watched it with some trepidation as I'd heard mixed reviews. T.S.N. is one of my favourite books and I didn't want any "wrong" images in my head from the film next time I read it.
Overall, I'd give it 3/5. A few things were...
Yes, there is some rule about that in some parts of Britain. It might be that.
Fair point. It's definitely stretching "not telling everything", though I'd still call it that rather than outright lying. Dumbledore, IMHO didn't tell Harry anything that wasn't true. He just told a (miniscule)...
Hello again,
I think he'll be killed off too, or some other form of "leaving" at least (i.e. Gandalf, Macros the Black etc).
I'm playing Devil's Advocate here TBH. As I said right in the first post, I reckon Dumbledore is still concealing information.
I don't, however, think that...
I wouldn't disagree with you that they're getting darker but I still don't think that Harry would be killed off at the end.
Only if Dumbledore is telling lies! Voldemort marked Harry as his equal, not Neville. That's not to say that Neville won't figure in the outcome - he became much more...
It's a kid's book - I can't imagine that Harry would be killed off at the end. He could be figuratively killed off I suppose - the power's he got from Voldemort disappearing when he dies.
I still go with the fact that its connected to something we haven't seen yet and (relatively) unconnected...
Sounds good!
A book on my to-read list that my wife would be sure to recommend (judging by the amount of laughing and near-choking that went on when she was reading it) is "Join Me" by Danny Wallace about a guy who accidently started a cult.

A few of my favourites:
"The Blue Road" - Windy Baboulene
"M.A.S.H." - Richard Hooker. (the original novel)
"This Game of Ghosts" - Joe Simpson
Note that two of these are non-fiction and several more that didn't make this list are as well. Is it only me, or do other people find that its...
Also forgot to mention Peter Bagge - start off with "The Bradleys", then go onto the "Buddy Bradley" books. You can get all of these at Fantagraphics.

Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire (spoilers)
Has anyone wondered what was meant by the bit at the end of GoF when Harry was telling Dumbledore about how Voldemort could now touch Harry without pain and Dumbledore's eyes were described showing a "brief flash of triumph" (or words to that effect)...
Yeah, you'd probably like Quicksilver as its a prequel to Crypto.
Be warned though, that it's TOTALLY different - its a historical novel set in the late 1600's featuring characters like Isaac Newton and Robert Hooke. It can be a bit of a slow boiler at times like Crypto., but its still highly...
Hello!
Hi everyone,
Last couple of books I read - Lake Wobegon Days by Garrison Keillor and Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson, both of which I'd recommend. Currently reading Time to Depart by Lindsey Davis which isn't too bad so far.
Bye for now.

Hi everyone,
found the site yesterday when I was looking for a place to help track down a couple of books. Love what I've seen of the site so far!
Not too much to say about me. I'm an avid reader of a variety of genres. I've got vague ambitions of writing something someday...
Hi all,
I've read a couple of books read long enough ago (10 - 15 years ago)
that I can't remember much about them an especially not the author
or title.
The first is a novel written in late '80s, early '90s concerning a Native
American gardner who'd been accused of murdering his...
Neuromancer - entertaining, intelligent and oozes "cool" out of every letter
Dune - old, but still classic and will probably never feel dated.
Dan Simmon's Hyperion books - some aspects not all that original I s'pose but all highly enjoyable and well written.
You could also argue that...
