    Ask Me Anything ...

Your source: http://www.anu.edu.au/people/Roger.Clarke/SOS/Asimov.html What happened to the increasing use of Asimov's law in the research institutions of the present day (with respect to Artificial Intelligence)? Consider the Terminator films- laws of robotics would have prevented the...

    Which magazines do you read?

I' ve been buying less and less in terms of magazines, but I still get the occasional: SFX Empire PC Zone got a bit crap around issue 110 or so when it became too C&VG like so I've not gone back to it. I am tempted by the Analog and Asimov magazines

    Someone reccomend me something

Well it wasn't my list, but it's the crib sheet I'm working from at the moment, and I can't say I've been dissapointed thus far (I'm 2/3 of the way through).

    Someone reccomend me something

Quick copy and paste- pick and choose those for which the blurbs sound appealing: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy- Douglas Adams Foundation Trilogy (Foundation/Foundation and Empire/Second Foundation) - Isaac Asimov I, Robot - Isaac Asimov The Demolished Man - Alfred Bester The Stars My...

    Ask Me Anything ...

That last sentence sounds painful- I'd have thought you killed the chicken before subjecting it to all that. Next question- how relevant are Asimov's 3 laws of robotics in the present day?

    Force yourself

You hit the nail on the head there. I guess it's obvious that I've not been into a bookshop for 6 months or so now to stop myself from getting more books. ebay and amazon haven't help kick the obsessive compulsive buying of books though. I'm really tempted to go on a short story binge at the mo...

    Daphne du Maurier: Rebecca

I quite enjoyed Rebecca when I read it. However, the film's not much different, and it could be argued that if you've seen the film (Hithcock) don't bother with the book.

    Force yourself

IIRC my 'to read pile' at the mo: Imajica, Islandia, Downbelow Station, Word of Honour, The Charm School, Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, Uplift War, The Murder Room, Count of Monte Cristo, The Hannibal trilogy (Red Dragon etc), David Copperfield and The Worm Ouroboros. Out of that lot, 3 or 4 have...

    Thou frothy dread-bolted flax-wench!

With all these random threads popping up, the other Wabbit has to show some results. Or is it just everyone called Martin? Some say we're too accoustomed to words such as f**k and c**t, with sexual and religious swearwords losing their potency, and we're going back to older curses. The...

    Ask Me Anything ...

My question (I'm still dissapointed with Martin's inablility to answer my last question): Kentucky Fried Chicken in their adverts suggested a 'secret blend of herbs and spices' that made their chicken taste great. What was the secret recipie?

    Favorite Quotes

Hmmn- I really should write down the cool quotes I come across so I don't forget them. There's a number I remember being funny, and I know where I read them, but over time, I've forgotten :( Off the top of my head: "Impressive, most impressive. But you are not a jedi yet" "It is...

    Music - redux

At the mo, I'm having a listen to the recently blacklisted 'Grey album' towards which the music industry's exercising a zero tolerance policy at the mo (just to see what the fuss is about- I'm not into hip hop). It's not bad though

How many forums do you frequent?

This one- though it's a bit spammy, it's fun Moderate on http://www.sffworld.org/forums - science fiction/fantasy/horror fiction orientated, but there's also some decent film/sport discussions going on there as well. 'twas my first online forum, so forgive me for showing a bit of loyalty...

    Whodunnits?

To be honest, I'm not entirely convinced by ol' Sherlock. Agatha Christie wrote some really good ones, but I'm trying to find a few gems from other authors out there.

    Whodunnits?

Can anyone recommend some decent whodunnits (was it Martin, the Wabbit in black, the alien, Phil, the American broad, the eccentic Scottish lady or the butler that did the deed)? Decent ones are hard to come by. I'm after well written ones with plenty of clues, leading to a decent 'parlour...

    CD reading question

Not sure about the program, but as martin said it's about the type of damage. I don't think a broken into bitty pieces cd's going to be helped by some programs If you mean cds which have become unreadable by dirt or scratches, there are kits out there that scrape part of the outermost layer...

    Aliens sings disco!

You could argue we are all the universe made manifest in order to help understand itself. wonders how much mystic mumbo-jumbo he can pull out of the hat On the edit- okay that didn't make sense. Now I'm confused. This must be contagious

    Collaborative stories

Was going to start it in the writers section sometime. Anyone have any preference as to genre/type of story? Need to hammer out a few rules - eg don't kill off a long established character that someone's spent ages developing without permission (use the PM system). Suddenly dropping an...
