right to life - right to die

I am standing by sweetsymphony on this-heres why: My friend has a son who was in a car hit by a drunk moron. Her son was six weeks old. Half his brain was crushed. He has no motor skills, no speech, cant see more than a few feet away, is constantly ill, often cannot breathe on his own...

    Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series

I would recommend 'The Caves of Steel'/'The Naked Sun'/'The Robots of Dawn' series. Great sci-fi/mysteries! Also I just finished 'Pebble in the Sky' which I really enjoyed-even as it was written in 1950 it still reached far beyond today into the future! That ones a quick read-200 pages. Has...

    Any Clive Barker fans?

I haven't seen his name mentioned(except 'Weaveworld') in the short time I've been here-just wondering if anyone else read his books. So far I've read: The Great and Secret Show The Damnation Game Everville Sacrement The Inhuman Condition Books of Blood-Volume 1 Granted it's strange...

What's wrong with the public library?

I've always used and loved public libraries. As a kid, the library was heaven. Cool in summer and full of books. I always left with the maximum number you could borrow, and I still do. Even the one tiny library I visit always has something interesting to borrow. And if I read something I want...

    How big is yours?

Wow! I'm a book-acquiring addict and I didn't even know until I saw this question and had to go count--and was shocked to find 143! I just cant help it-I go to a yard sale or library sale and there they are--"buy me only 50 cents",or the libraries have "All the books you can put in a bag...

How long do you read for??

Anywhere from 1/2 hour to all day if I can get away with it! A great book sucks me in and its hard to get out to do other stuff! I try to get in at least 75-100 pages a day, but more is always better. :D When I was a kid, I'd spend up to 6 hours reading in the library-that was awesome.

    Assigned Reading

I hated very much being forced to read, so much that I can hardly recall any required reading. Worse still, was the picking-apart analyzing of the book chapter by chapter, and the very worst was the dreaded "Oral Report". That would eat at my mind all through the book! And since I would read the...

How did you get your love of books?

Wow! You wrote my reply for me! My parents read to me from Day 1 and I had a large collection of childrens books.I remember being shocked in kindergarten that the other kids couldn't read much of anything. I loved going to library in school, and the public library was my idea of heaven! Books...

    Strangest novel

The one I just finished, 'The Great and Secret Show' by Clive Barker. Everything he writes is strange, but this one takes first prize! Very bizzare-I loved it! When you read a lot of horror, its cool to be surprised/shocked by the twists in a novel, and this is full of twists and...

Suggestions for a 9 year old

My son hates to read and when he was 9 the only books I could get him interested in were the books where you decide what happens next and go to the corresponding page. Goosebumps has a lot of them, luckily. I think we went through them all. He also thought the regular Goosebumps stories were...

What do bookworms do for exercise?

My "Bookworm Exercise Program" has two parts: 1 - The Winter Part - sit and read until Spring. Its too cold to do much else. (kids/pets keep me moving indoors) 2 - The Spring,Summer, Fall Part - garden, garden, everyday - lots of bending,stretching,lifting...

    Anyone enjoy books on CD???

I borrowed a couple from my neighbor, but I kept losing track of the story and having to go back. I dont think I'll borrow any more, but my neighbor likes them a lot, and the library seems to be increasing their selection too, so they must be gaining in popularity. I'll stick with the printed...

    Concentration while reading

That's funny, because before I figured out how to read while washing, I listened to radio or CD's also- and I still do most of the rest of the day - unless there's a good old movie on! :)

    Concentration while reading

Well, I haven't done any damage to any books so far, as long as I dont splash the water, and I always check the dishes in case I miss something, but so far I haven't. Its just that dishwashing is SOOO BORING, its impossible for me to stop reading to do it. Maybe books on tape or CD would work...
