Hello, and welcome.

What are you reading just now?

I have no real problems changing to the Euro as it means I won't have to change currencies when travelling to other parts of Europe, and my pay packet would look a heck of a lot more the first time I got paid. It would make parts of my job slightly easier too - but only because I'm too lazy to...
How on earth did Julie Meyerson get onto that list? Hmm, dubious, let's just hope her friendship with a few of the panel doesn't cloud anyones judgement.
I was at a discussion last week with the fabulous John Carey and also the lovely Francine Stock, both of whom are judging the winner this...
The last one is very critically acclaimed and is about a young shepherd who has a dream about treasure - 'his detiny' - and goes to find it. It's meant to be a 'soul finding' book but I think that was lost on me and, to be honest, I didn't think it was that great.
Thousands of others like...
Something short, easy to read and then discuss. Perhaps something that many of us have already read. Therefore, I propose the following.
Louis Sachar - Holes
John Steinbeck - Of Mice and Men
Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist
Any one approve these? Or have a preference for either?

Bloomin'ell. :)
I come back from a nice quiet evening out and find my inbox full of 'someone has replied to your post' messages - hee. Welcome aboard Phil.
I shall try and look for that book when I'm not so tired, although I must say it doesn't stand out at the moment.
My housemate...
As far as content goes all of it was the same, except for a few thousand copies in, I think, New Zealand who had two chapters missing from the end. This was re-released though.
(Geez, I wish my copy had two chapters missing - and not just because it's so big :D)

I can feel sorry for him very easily. He was tormented and humilliated throughout his schooling life and this has stayed with him throughout his adulthood. I was a victim of bullying myself whilst at school, so know the effects in can have on an individual.
I don't agree with him exacting...
When you reply to a post, or indeed create a new post, there is a 'spoiler' button above the input box, along with the url and image options and such.
Simply click on it and input the spoiler text. (I haven't tested it to see how long it allows your input to be yet - anyone?)
I'm sure you...
Hee. I have read 2 books this month (August) and am onto a few more just now (including Holes - but don't tell anyone in case it wins). Also managed to borrow a PG Wodehouse so can try him out next. I can't see me reading more than 6 or 7 this month unless I manage to pull myself away from the...
The whole reason why Snape is the way he is with Harry, is because of the incident with Harry's father. If he hadn't been on the 'bad end of the stick' previously, then his actions towards Harry would be different. I felt more sorry for Snape after seeing this incident and feel his actions...
I would think they want you to discuss Abigail as the main character in The Crucible.
How is this character, and her methods used to entrap men, different to that of Hester?
How does the racial tension of the deep south in the 1930's for Maya, differ to the 17th century views of...
Okay, let's start by you telling me the names of the three central characters and a little bit about the situations they have to face in the novels. This would basically be a very brief synopsis of how the books revolve around those central characters, and once this is established we can use...
I see in other threads that you are suggesting this. Can you give us more info such as what it is about and why you like it so much, perhaps also what books it may be similar to?
