    Real Crime

That was crap,IMO. She didnt solve anything, & she has no good evidence.

    Real Crime

I disagree. Its a pretty boring book, no matter what role it played in the history of the genre. Better to just leave it. Life is too short to read bad books. Ive read gobs of criminology & serial killer books. Among the very best are Brian Masters Killing for Company about Dennis Nilsen &...

    Scariest Book Ever?

Youll never be in the mood for the Room. But I suggest you read it anyway. Selby is a depraved madman, & I love him!

    Charles Dickens

I only got turned on to Dickens w/in the past year, & read 4 of his novels in a row. My favourite so far is Bleak House, but Ive also read David Copperfield, The Pickwick Papers, & Great Expectations. The guy is a comedic genius & a brilliant writer. He knocks me over every time.

    Marcel Proust

I read Swann's Way about 6 months ago. It was my first by Proust. Hes quite wordy & descriptive, which could be a struggle for some & boring for others, but I enjoyed it. The language is brilliant. I need to get the second volume.

I just read Affliction not long ago & immediately bought a bunch of his other books. I have most of the ones you listed. Which one would you recommend after Affliction as someone new to his work?

Yukio Mishima: The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea

I read Confessions of a Mask many moons ago. While I dont remember much about it specifically, I do remember that I liked it a lot. I have several of Mishima's books that I bought not long ago that I will read sometime soon. The film version of The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea is...

    Joseph Heller: Catch 22

Series aimed at a more mature audience?

Kiernan writes fantasy now? Ive only read Silk & some of the stuff she did w/Poppy Z Brite. Is it more horror-fantasy? Can you recommend some titles? I enjoyed Silk enough.

Do You Have a Story Idea (Novel or Short Story) in Your Head Right Now?

Bookworm fellow, I think your idea for a story is very good & very intriguing. I think you should definitely pursue it. Someone said that the NAMES have to mean something. No they dont. Forget that. Also, theres nothing wrong w/someone suffering multiple times for the sins they have committed...

Fyodor Dostoevsky: Notes From The Underground

I would say do NOT dismiss it by any means! I guess Im coming from a completely different place from you though, because the writing & the narrator's deliberate engagement of the reader were the exact things that endeared me to the work. You had a reaction to the narrative, which is a good...

Fyodor Dostoevsky: Notes From The Underground

Notes is one of the most brilliant pieces of literature ever written,IMO. I first read it when I was probably 16 & have re-read it many, many times since then. Theres nothing really like it, although for some reason the Death of Ivan Ilyich comes to mind as something of a similar creature. I...

Do you keep a book list?

I discovered goodreads earlier in the year & its been a very enjoyable thing for me to have a catalogue of all the books I own, what Ive read, & what is waiting to be read. Ive always wanted to have such a list. Its cool to write your own little "reviews" (mine are more comments as opposed to...

    Scariest Book Ever?

If you thought that was disturbing, you should read his "The Room". Probably the most disturbing thing Ive ever read, & Ive read some disturbing things!! Cool to see another Selby fan here!
