Eeks! Just squeezed by. :)
Have fun writing. I've been doing poetry since retiring, and making sporadic progress on a memoir. Keeps the grey cells active.
That picture of me was confusing and raised questions at the time. Actually I was just wearing an ordinary fedora pushed back on my head.
I'm a retired computer engineer by trade, so comments about supercomputers perk me up.
I'm still not quite sure which point of yours I'm proving by...
That's presumptuous of you.
But I will agree with you: things are different now. Much better, and much worse.
Unless, of course, one defines all change as better. In which case . . .
Dirge for a Republic
The worst has happened:
The best no more,
The City gone,
A Pile 0f Sludge
Where once a Shining Hill.
'Exceptionalism' a word no longer needed,
'With malice toward none
And charity for all'
Quaint,
Too quaint
And now no longer 'operative.'

Sleepless
Sleep! Oh, Sleep!
You are not my friend!
Never there when I need you,
Late, always late,
When I could have enjoyed you.
I try without you
but that is useless,
foredoomed to failure,
I know in advance.
You've worn out my anticipation.
I've surrendered to your whims.

I started late. I don't recall books as being part of any of our early lives during the Depression.
Looking back now, simply having food was probably big enough news.
Quality Silence
Quality silence on the Edge of the bed
Sitting resting as Stars fade to grey
Trees still and calm Untipped with gold
Lie back down and Hope to remember
Suddenly waken to Start the day.
Every person's life is worth its living,
for the person's words and deeds, as seen and felt by others,
are the living person's influence on our own way forward.
So, though not all do get obits, all do count.
Remember them well,
for we all are who they once were.
Perhaps we learn what we wish to learn, and not learn what we don't wish to learn. (I'm clearly in a Turing-Test frame of mind today.)
I read his earlier (unrevised) version of Collapse and (thought) I learned a lot from it. (Or not).
Sorry, but times have changed and I am involved in other things.
I do, however, hope you get many positive responses.
They were fun while they lasted.
Sincerely,
Peder
