    e-Books Vs normal books..

Well, Canuck, Time was when we had a mixture of hardcover and softcover books. Now we have a mixture of hardcover, softcover and Kindle books -- all of the same book, even. And favorite books on each of our Kindles, too. What can I tell ya? They just multiply. And right now I am...

    e-Books Vs normal books..

Amen to that, Canuck! They are much easier to hold -- even all of them at once -- and also to read. My Kindle must be getting close to bursting by now, but we still shop the library sales for good values, too. One way or another the collection just grows and grows.

The Master Algorithm by Pedro Domingos (Review)

I am only half way through 'The Master Algorithm' and am already convinced that it is one of the best books of any genre that I have read in the past few years. It is popularized-science and the subtitle is 'How the Quest for the Ultimate Learning Machine Will Remake the World.' If you have...

Official BAR Poll - What is your genre of choice?

Mystery, for entertainment. Poetry, in small doses. Just now Wasteland is blowing me away! Non-fiction, mainly to keep abreast of popularized physics on where it all came from. Literary fiction, to kick back and enjoy good writing.

    Fall Reading List

What with all the recent excitement about striking down the Confederate flag and removing statues of heroes, next on my list is definitely: A Short History of the Confederate States of America by Jefferson Davis.

    Recently Finished

I have read many wonderful books through the years, but I have just finished what may be only the second of two truly great works I have ever read (Bible excepted of course): The Karla Trilogy by John LeCarré. :star5: Five stars and five stars again! (The other great one? Lolita by Vladimir...

Cajunmama, Thank you for noticing it. :) In rereading my post, I see it would have been clearer if I had mentioned that she was also the last person on earth. I hope you enjoy the book. Peder

    Do we learn from history?

Indeed. Perhaps then there are two questions: Where have we learned, and where have we not? Bosons are new, wars are old.

    The Stage - A poem

753C, DATo, I can hardly express how pleased I am that you both enjoyed the poem, especially as it strikes me as rather difficult. I had posted it with rather faint hope, but the fact that you have taken the time to read it, and like it (!), absolutely fills my day with joy. Many many thanks...

    The Stage - A poem

The Stage Evanescent the scene appears before us Vistas on backdrops fading further into distance Recalling differently the same scene The same locale from a different time Viewed as through the prism of memory But as real before us as the characters we see Standing and moving talking to us...
