Pet Hates. This is Room 101.

My pets hate oranges. I know guinea pigs are reputed to love them, but two out of three give all orange pieces a very wide berth in their enclosure. The one that likes them, even waits a while before he'll go near a piece. But they LOVE bell peppers.:)

    Speaking of headache-inducing ...

A nice segue, at long last! Someone will know this, though, so I anticipate a short wait, thanks to many the many smarties hereabouts. Hopefully, they weren't so smart as to totally avoid this crazy book.;)

    Speaking of headache-inducing ...

Does anyone remember a book about a fellow who writes a book which no one will read, even his friends, claiming that every time they start to read it, it causes them headache? Perhaps it is a fantasy of mine, but I think he also imagines potentiating this trait into a "killer" book. The guy was...

Difficulty in discussing literature on book-related forums?

Well, Harishankar, I clicked on your review link and found a favorite author of mine, R.K. Narayan. His books are so evocative of their place and time and utterly hilarious, by turns. They are great books and I wish more people knew about them. Hopefully this post will help spread the word, no...

    Last seen...

Nah, she did right. What a satisfying explosion. I kept trying to make sense of it, but since that wasn't happening, I just went with it because I like her. Even after the fourth or fifth time she "broke away."

What do you use as a bookmark?

I prefer index cards over all other bookmarks. But I'm willling to use whatever comes to hand, such as post-its, grocery lists, receipts of all kinds ... one of the multitude of advantages to being cluttered - there's always a bookmark.

ROTFL. BTW I enjoy a TINY bit of confusion. It adds piquance. It let's me feel more invlolved with the story, and that it may all be cleared up later.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Sometimes if you go in and speak to a reference librarian they may be able to do an advanced search, beyond your immediate region. That's what I do when I can't find an obscure book. I did this with a set of outdated books that were published only in the UK. She was able to find a copy from San...

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

R.K. Narayan wrote super fabulous stories of south India. Some are SO funny. He was from an earlier era - born 1906, probably why I don't hear much about him anywhere. He wrote a pretty famous series of novels set in the fictional village of Malgudi and are hence called Malgudi Stories, Malgudi...

Are you a nerd, a geek or a dork?

Denny, judging solely on the basis of your comparison study between the two forums, there can be no denying the plain facts. You really are the biggest nerd of us all! A compliment, it IS!

    Bargains

Our local Friends of the Library group has several sales each year that are made up of donated books, sold first to members, then to the public at large. We buy lots of books at these events. They put big signs out two weeks in advance, then new signs on the sale day. Seems to work really well...
